From what Fitz has conveyed recently, I dont even think he would take 31 y/o JVR and his 7mm cap hit for future considerations. No reason to die on a mound of another GM's bad contracts.

I could see this deal legitimately happening if Philly retained a little bit (max $2M). JvR goes home to jersey and only has 3 years left on that contract. I think NJ could benefit from a big net-front presence guy who can pop in 20 tucks a year. In Philly's position though, they'll look to lose that whole contract (possible Seattle acquisition next year).

While jvr is over paid by about 1-2mil, hes still a lock for 45-55 pts, for those that look at him as a pure salary dump, hes not.

Philly moves him not just for cap space but because they have Giroux, konexckny, voracek, lindblom, farabee at wing, with Coots, Hayes and Laughton at center and youngsters like frost, Allison pushing for top 9 time.

While its a big contract to move, don't fool yourself into thinking he has negative value, IMO hes worth more than a mid 2nd and 3rd. While PHI might let him go in expansion, he does have value.

I agree with you. However, with it being a flat cap next year I dont think you'll get the return you want for him.

I agree, maybe they give Seattle a middling pick or a mid level prospect to take him. Ideally with Ghost and JVR as the obvious candidates to go in expansion or trade, the Flyers have good options to create cap space.

But I don't see either of those two as cap dumps. The team really only has Patrick and Hagg to re-sign and season after: only Sanheim and Hart (with plenty of cap coming off in niskanen/raffl), so the team isn't in cap hell that theyre desperate to make a bad move.

(And you never know, every team in the league has a few bad contracts they'll swap for JVR, just might not create the cap space the Flyers would like)

JVR with about $1.5 million retained is probably worth about the same as Zucker who was just traded to the Pens for a really good prospect, a roster player and a 1st.
