Reach for the Brass rings By a Field

Created by: BlackTaurus

Description
Just messing around with potential moves for the Rangers. I love Alexis Lafrenière but Byfield fills a major need and isn't a bad option either since he is at the top of the Center prospects and 2nd only to Lafrenière. This trade sures up our left side after a Staal buyout with Bjornfot and gives us some more picks in the 2nd. Senators are losing Anderson via contract year and who knows if he will still play anyway. Hogberg vs Georgiev for them now. Strome isn't the answer to everything but he brings 2 things to the table. Another right handed shot and being a known commodity. The reunion with Brassard is just for nostalgia but easily an upgrade over in house options for 4C but if we can get a similar player (that is younger) that would be fine.

Kings don't have the defensive depth to trade their top defensive prospect. Not to mention the #35 pick and another 2nd rounder. That'd be a no from LA.

Kings aren't also hurting in the defense department either. They still have a decent NHL defense and I doubt they wouldn't think hard about that trade if they can get Laf.

That's not true, unfortunately. The Kings have Drew Doughty, who's still an elite defender, followed by a sincerely below average defense. That's been part of the problem in LA. There were certainly strides made this year with the progression of Roy and Walker, but when Ben Hutton is your top-pairing defender with Drew Doughty, you aren't a "decent NHL defense".

To be fair as well. The Kings just need to accept a rebuild anyway. Most of the core is over 30 and their skills are starting to show diminishment. Getting Laf would be the start of the rebuild and using the depth they have acquired for Center will help too. There are some quality defensemen in the draft and UFA has some young better options.

Not sure where you've been, but the Kings showed they accepted the rebuild when they traded Jake Muzzin over a year and a half ago. Since then, all they've done is sell off pieces for draft picks. In addition, they now have one of the highest rated prospect pools in the league, according to people who are paid for their opinions on that matter. They won't take a defenseman in the first round, but they will in the second this year.

As far as UFA goes, the Kings are going to be looking for a veteran LHD to stabilize that while Bjornfot learns the ins and outs of the NHL. Whether that player is found in UFA or as a cap dump from another team (look at Leddy, Marc Staal, Goligoski, etc) remains to be seen. But you're certainly right that they'll be looking for something.
