Description
I tried to take a semi-realistic approach to what the Pens offseason could look like (at least in my mind). Open to comments/praise/criticism for any of the moves. I don't think you can bring back essentially the same roster and expect to get any better results, and GMJR hinted at bigger changes, but I just don't see it happening.

This is my projection for opening night next season. I did have ZAR moved for a draft pick before his shoulder surgery and 6 month recovery time, so I think he'll still be on the roster opening night, but could be moved at the deadline next season depending on how rehab/playing goes.

Trade/transaction logic:
Johnson Buyout - I don't see anyway that he gets moved for anything of any consequence. Buyout definitely seems most likely.
MIN - Bjugstad is likely gone. Sort of trading an injured question mark for a different injured question mark in Pateryn. Backfills the 3RD position with Schultz walking.
EDM - Murray is likely gone. I have no idea what his value is, but it can't be anywhere near as high as it used to be. I just threw a dart at this one, both on return and destination.
NSH - Here's a big one. A lot of articles I've been reading has been saying that Turris is likely to be bought out if a trade partner can't be found. I don't see the Pens retaining Rodrigues if he wasn't able to get in an SCF qualifying round game. NSH would probably be happy to get ANYTHING for Turris. The 2M retained essentially mirrors what the cap hit would be if they bought him out instead of trading him, except that cap charge would only last the duration of the contract instead of twice as long if they bought him out. Try him in the 3C role, if it doesn't work, he's at least a lot more palatable at 4M per than 6M per.
GMJR had noted wanting to get more young guys in the lineup, so I think POJ makes the roster out of camp as the 3LD. Also think Lafferty makes the lineup with ZAR sidelined to start the season. Connauton signed for minimal amount for experienced backup in case POJ flounders early.

Thanks for reading and thanks for the feedback!

Articles I have read said Murray is probably worth a bit less than Lehner (2nd + prospect + roster player) but maybe worth a bit more than/about the same as Grubauer. Pens might be able to add a heavy contract like Bjugstad into the Murray deal as well. I think he is probably worth around a 2nd and a little more.

I think the Bjugstad/Pateryn swap makes sense. With Koivu's future being a question mark and Staal only having another year at the age of 36, Bjugstad is a good risk to take. He is also from Minnesota, so that might give him extra motivation. Pateryn seems to be out of favour there and they also have Addison potentially coming up ( frown(((( ). The Pens could use him as the 3rd pairing dman or as an extra. If the cap works, I like this swap.

Finally, I do actually like the idea of the Turris deal. The Penguins management did say they want to get younger, so he might not be someone they look at, but the deal makes sense. Nashville gets something back and only pay $2M for 4 years instead of 8.

From Edmonton, would be pretty happy to pick up Murray. I would think Benning or Pujlijarvi would be the return options.

The only trade here the penguins would even consider is the MIN trade. And even that they might not take. They might be able to move Jugs.

I actually thought about Puljujarvi as the return for Murray, but I didn't know what his actual value is either. That would accomplish GMJR's stated goal of getting younger, for sure.
