Leafs in general should not trade marner at all. Like the Kadri trade it will come back to bite us. Kids young and still has a lot of room to grow. Projections have him being a 100 point player in a year or two and every year his defensive game gets better. Plus he and Matthews have amazing chemistry so it would be dumb to move him. It would be like Boston trading Marchand from the Pasta line due to his attitude.

I say move Nylander in a packaged deal to NJ, Anaheim, or Minnesota. The return will be good and we can build a balanced dcore while spreading out our offense.

I don't think the money is the issue, his 11mill cap hit is the issue. You could place a 4/5mill player on the right of matthews and he will still score 40 goals.

Nope. Matthews had Johnsson and Nylander as linemates last year and sports analysts could tell something was wrong with his game. His numbers were falling and his analytics were going down to. Everyone agreed Babcock should try pairing him with Marner to see if things would improve, Babcock didnt do this but keefe did and the results were instant.

In general upon being paired with Marner Matthews saw a dramatic improvement. Hyman-Matthews-Marner is one of the best lines in the NHL and it would be dumb to split it up.

Nylander already got his money up front, now he has $6 x 4 years.

Thats perfect in a trade. Nylander in general is mainly a goal scorer, while he provides the points, he provides little in terms of defense which is something this team needs.

The offers he could bring are perfect for the leafs as a team like NJ could send over (Severson, Zacha or Wood, and one of the Arizona or Vancouver 1sts). While his goal scoring will be missed, like Vancouver toronto can divide the scoring amongst all the lines rather than have it focused on 3 players.

I agree with what your saying, Marner is a great player, but Matthews still had over a point per game and 37 goals. Its alot easier to give a up goal then to score one. If you trade Marner it gives you a little extra money to sign or trade for a Dman.

Trading marner isnt the logical approach, while it would save cap toronto would lose one of its most valuble players. Losing his playmaking abilities will be noticed from the very start of the season and people during next playoffs will be going why did we trade him again. It will basically be a repeat of the Kadri trade.

Nylander is the easiest of the two to move. He can get a nice return and save us cap. For instance if Toronto went to NJ and traded (Nylander) for (Foote+Severson+ van 1st) we would have 2 mill in extra cap space, and remember Seattle is coming so toronto can always let them take kerfoot or Holl should they need more cap space.

I don't see Toronto getting all that for Nylander. There just aren't that many teams that can take on Nylander's contract. I think what ever trade they decide to do, they will be giving up more. No one is going to help Toronto out of cap troubles and that was proven with the Marleau trade last year and the Kadri trade. Look how bad that Kadri trade is going to look if you let seatle take kerfoot for free.

Toronto plans on protecting kerfoot and is probs letting Holl go. Liligren and Sandin will be ready by then and the guy we traded Nylander for will be at the top pairing with Rielly.

In general rebuilding/tooling teams (i.e. Nashville, Minnesota, New Jersey) can make use of Nylander. Whether it be (Ellis for Nylander) (Zacha+Severson for Nylander) or (Dumba/Brodin for Nylander) in the end both sides get what they want as Toronto gets the RHD they need and whatever team gets him will have the piece they need to complete or speed up their rebuild/tool

If Liligren, Sandin and Lehtonen step up, Toronto shouldn't have trade any of the major pieces. Its going to be interstesting to see what all the teams do with flat cap and expansion draft coming up. Unfortunately our teams have to wait another two months!
