Don't watch the Caps, so I can't say for sure, but some of his advanced numbers are not pretty

He just doesn’t seem to be the center the caps are looking for tbh. He’s bad at face offs, never shoots hardly ever, and loses the puck a lot. Passenger most nights too

we don't want Hags back and he does suck that much.
He lost his legs, and he can't hit the broad side of a barn with his shot.

I disagree with Kuz. He was one of the only players to show up during the Islanders series. Caps also arent going to get rid of Alexeyev

Caps jumped balls deep into awful signings.

I think in the end the lesson to be learned here is never sign role players to long term deals. 4 years of Hags and Panik was not the right direction.
Panik I have to admit, I did not see becoming hot garbage. But the Hags move........ you could see that a mile away. At least any penguins fan could. No offensive upside and losing his legs. WSH fans defended that to the death too.

how sure are you that its Kuzy and not the system? good question to ask yourself....Last coach was he improving year to year? when did he start to decline? do you really want to trade a player as talented as Kuzy while also giving up an A prospect in Alexeyev for lateral moves? Bennet broke 30 points one time in 5 years... he's 24 years old. Panik was better last year in a down year. so capitals lose that trade. Monahan and Kuzy might be equal talent but Kuzy has shown he can play well in the playoffs (3rd most points last 3 years) defensively Monahan looks like a -25 career. dont know a lot about advanced stats but i DO KNOW that most great defensive players are - in a +/-. this trade makes the capitals a worse team and shuts the window way faster

Panik actually wasnt terrible as you might think.... its just really hard to create offense when you have Hag as a winger. look at his last 20 games of last years season....i wouldnt be surprised if play him on the 3rd line with a more offensive minded winger he could get 30+ points. Hag is a big reason the capitals have a great PK but like i said before him playing 3rd line kills all momentum that line could possibly create....i think he could be the guy moved . idfk why they signed him tbh

this doesnt mean you trade away the 2nd best prospect.... if you trade him it should be for a young RHD prospect not a 25-30 point winger

hags was done the year he broke his ankle and then decided to skate on it right away. He never came back from that. I don't know if they plated it or what. But it was evident he lost his speed then, and it just continued.

Maybe Panik bounces back. I mean he was never great but he was competent. mid 30 to 40 points. But if I was the caps, I'd move him if they can. He's gonna be 30 this year, and if he plays bad next year, you'll have a hard time dumping him. I don't think it's worth the risk of keeping him now. They can get 30-40 points out of someone else, if they can move him at no cost or get a return now.

I agree about wanting to see Panik get another season with the Caps. Some guys just take a little while to adjust to a team/system, and you’re right that playing on a line with Hags didn’t help.

I think they keep Hags around one more year and then give Seattle a pick to take him in the expansion. He’s still a great 4th liner, and the Caps can afford to have an overpay him next year, but after that his cap hit’s gonna be a problem.

Even if the Caps were looking to trade Kuzy, Buffalo wouldn’t make sense. He’s got a 15 team no trade list, and chances are pretty good that Buffalo’s on it.

he has solid defensive numbers and f he can score 35-40 points i would be happy. Hag though my god they signed him for too much for too long.... hes a great 4th line player/Pk but literally anything else hes not good... he has slown down drastically

Seattle will go for Oshie or Seigs imo

The Caps could protect Oshie if they wanted to, since they get to protect 7 forwards and won’t need to protect McMichael. They could protect Eller and the whole top 6. Siegs is probably the most likely pick (assuming they sign and protect Dillon or a similar D), but I don’t think he’s a slam dunk or anything, so they could probably throw a pick at Seattle to get the to take Hags instead.

i think they dont want to and save the money and get out of the contract before it gets bad. Oshie goes home and becomes the face of the franchise

That's definitely possible, but I could still see them wanting to keep him. He's showing no signs of slowing down so far, and he seems like he's a huge part of the locker room, so they could see him like Orpik where his value goes well beyond what he provides on the ice. Also, everything I've heard about Oshie's personal life suggests he's really set down roots here. I know this is a business, but I kind of feel like he's earned a right to stay here if he wants to. There's a value to doing right by guys who've paid their dues with the franchise.
