What’s with all these awful overreacting Calgary trades? They don’t have to rebuild anything

its not really a rebuild but a restock of the leagues worst farm system while being competitive.... 8oa is a great pick to have in this deep draft...

That PHI deal is terrible for CGY.

And based on how badly BUF fans have wanted to move Montour (I've seen posts that value him as low as a 2nd-3rd round pick!), that deal is way below what Monahan is worth, especially given his 3 years of term at $6.375M.

It's not a rebuild but a change to the core, Monahan and Gaudreau have had 5/6 years on this team to do something and both have failed to elevate their game to when things get tough. They've had their chance to win, time to move on with Tkachuck and our young defencemen as the foundation. Idk what the move is but I know that Monahan and Gaudreau are done in Calgary

Bud Monahan is a good center but getting a top 10 pick plus a RHD is more than you can realistically expect to get for him. he ha one really good season but looks to be a 60-65 point center... hes actually only broke 65 points 1 time in his entire career? this year he was on a 56 point pace. try to remove you bias and understand what you re actually receiving in the trade. i would consider this for Kuzy and he is much better than Monahan ....with more term.

Philly gives you a really good center prospect and goalie prospect plus a 1st.... then yo upgrade from Lucic to JVR... not that terrible imo

If you lose those two you go from a playoff team to out of it instantly. It’s an overreaction to trade both

so gaining assets and being out instantly is worse than keeping them not upgrading at all and being out in the 1st round instantly... noted. i would agree with you if they failed this year due to the circumstances but they havent been close to a contender once in the playoffs.... maybe its not a terrible idea to take a step back and make a few changes with the current players. people act like Monahan is a 80 point center... hes an average defensive center who scores 65 points or less a year..... thats not impossible to replace

I'm not your buddy, guy.

I personally believe that there are smarter options for trading Monahan than bringing back that awful JVR contract. I'd rather keep the Lucic contract on the books for less. JVR's game isn't close to what it used to be, and I think just having the Lucic physical presence is a better fit within the CGY lineup.

We barely made the playoffs this year with them and have missed before with them, maybe we don't trade both but one definitely has to go at this point. Johnny Gaudreau is 27 and on the last year of his contract this year, at this point I'd trade him while he's still our best asset and try to build around the other talent we have.

well not with that attitude.. Monahan was traded to Buffalo for the 8oa pick and a top 4 RHD.
Last 2 season

JVR
132games.... 46 g 42 a 88 points 42 tk 35 giveaways.... +7 turnover ratio (.67ppg 54 points a year average)

Lucic
147 games.. 14g (lol) 26a 40 points 46 tk 76 giveaways -30 turnover ratio (yikes!) (.27ppg 22 point a year average) averages are based off 82 game seasons....

long story short JVR game is still pretty solid.... Does lucic physical game make up for a terrible turnover ratio and a 4th line point production? but seriously great points.... mybe add a better Prospect to the GJ trade but yeah... im not your guy buddy lol

6 years with Gaudreau and Monahan as core players. Missed playoffs twice. Went beyond Round 1 once (and got smoked by ANA). Quick exits twice. It's time to move on and try a new approach. Both guys are super talented, and CGY and both players will benefit greatly from fresh starts.

+ Gaudreau has 2 full seasons remaining on his contract, which is very valuable. Monahan has 3 full seasons remaining. Both on great cap hits for what they're worth.

I hear you on the JVR points versus Lucic. These guys aren't in the same country on that front. But JVR has been trending down pretty hard, and PHI has struggled to find any chemistry for him lately with a good mix of talented players (and plenty of PP time). I think he's on the downslope of his career pretty hard. Meanwhile, Lucic is big and scary and as much as I'd prefer to be paying him $2.5M per year, his contract and value to CGY feels like a better fit than JVR both today and in future seasons.

imo JVR had a down year and was still on pace for 50+ points and 20+ goals... his cap hit sucks but he might add something the Flames need. who knows lol

im not your pal, friend
