Description
Before you say 19 & 27 aren't worth 8 look at this. It is a graph that all NHL GMs have and use. Doesn't mean they would accept and could very well decline. In fact it is probable they decline but also possible they accept. http://statsportsconsulting.com/main/wp-content/uploads/Schuckers_NHL_Draftchart.pdf
Another thing to keep in mind is this team now has 5 players who were very important pieces of Cup winning teams. 4 of which won in the last 2 years.

CGY will have to pay to get rid of him. So i don't see 'any team' taking this deal the way it is

somebody will

You can take your previous sabermetrics and stick them somewhere. You don’t judge talent with a graph. I will take one great player over 2 good ones any day. Do you think Montreal would trade Nick Suzuki for Joel Ferabee and Joe Veleno right about now? I don’t.

Give it time. Farabee and Veleno are good prospects who could become great players. There's a reason I didn't include 2018 and 2019

That is easily the least inflammatory trade, proposed. Ryan has 1 year left and if a decent bottom 6 guy that can PK. Maybe some kind of salary retention, but he's a 3rd line player.

The trades aren't inflammatory

JG has never scored 100 points in his entire NHL career. Looks like a solid 70-80 point winger. He has 2 years left till he’s a UFA. Vrana looks to be improving every year. It’s not crazy to think that he’s going to break 60 points. 52p in 69 games this year. JG had 58 points in 70. Yeah hard pass on the 1 for 1 let alone throwing in a 1st round pick. Vrána is 3 years younger and slightly worse for half the cost. Again HARDPASS. If JG is a 1st better than Vrana Kuzy is a 1st better than Monahan. Jankowski or whatever would be an Ahler in Washington. His value is maybe a future consideration. I know we arent sending him his QO. So at best AT BEST it would be Kuzy and Vrana for Monahan and JG. Even at that capitals say no bc we are downgrading at center and taking more cap.

JG scored 99 points though and Vrana will be expensive soon enough and never score 100 points

Yes JG is better than Vrana but Vrana is younger, cheaper, and RFA that's about to be locked down for a long time. JG would probably play 2 years then walk. I'd do Kuz for JG, that makes more sense.

I don't know why everyone is so convinced Gaudreau won't resign

Also, if you look at the top 4 players I listed for 8 it was Werenski, Nylander, Couturier and Ristolainen. For 19 & 27 it was John Carlson, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Charlie Coyle and Oscar Klefbom. 19 & 27 landed arguably the best goalie and arguably best defence man in the NHL

If you’re so fixated on trading up then you’ll have to overpay for the 8th pick. 2 1sts and a player at a position of need the Sabres could play right now, and not your hand picked cap dump of choice.

According to your point then Calgary should just stay put with those 2 1st's.

I'm not saying he won't 100% but it's not worth the gamble.

Trading up or trading down is not about overpayment. It's about whose on the board. If they like whose on the board they'll stay put. If they don't then they'll trade down. The more picks, the more chances at a superstar

It's about whose on the board and if Buffalo or Calgary likes or doesn't like whose available

I think it comes down to if both D go in top the 7...if that's the case that means an extra forward drops down. I would think the top 3 should be cemented so 4-7 will tell the tale. If Raymond, Rossi, Holtz or Lundell are there I think the Sabres take one of them. Then there is always the possibility of the surprise pick that no one saw coming.

Yeah, this draft is going to be a crap shoot for sure
