You shouldn't have to give up Bellows in this trade (or retain on Bailey). I know we've had discussions before about whether or not it's a good idea to trade Bailey this offseason, but if we did nothing should need to be retained/sent with him

If I ever retain salary on Bailey, its just to prove a point that the isles can still make it work IF* Barzal receives an OS

(and @joshelkin )

David Backes = $1.5 million retained, good RD prospect (Axel Andersson) and same year's first, at trade deadline (plus another year), for Ondrej Kase (mid-6 forward)

Johnny Boychuk = $1.5 million retained, Bode Wilde and next year's first, for entire year (plus another), for Max Jones? You get to keep Bellows and don't have to trade Bailey

The isles organization values bode wilde a lot higher than bellows, I think the only way they part with him is if a team takes boychuk full contract.

Fair enough, hence my question mark in the original comment.

Wilde suffered a high ankle sprain last offseason, he missed training camp and the beginning of the season. He played 20 games for Bridgeport and then was sent back to Saginaw because the isles needed a contract slot for pageau + greene, but he was dominant in the OHL his first season. If the isles can help him work on his decision making , he could be an elite defenseman.
