They used their 1st round pick for nothing interesting. That 1st should have only been included if they were also dumping some cap too. They still need another piece and don’t have a 1st for 2 straight years as well as no cap space to sign a UFA

Is what it is, JR is a gunslinger so going to have to trust him when they think Kap can fit with Crosby. Don't think this roster needs much else, that's a playoff team as constructed. The 'other piece' could be Poulin/POJ/Maniscalco/O'Connor added for the playoff run

He's said before he doesn't try to 'win' trades, just have both teams walk away happy with what they got... it's why he's lasted so long as an NHL GM. Happy to get Kap, he's a great fit for the system. Think we overpaid but it won't hurt the org whatsoever as long as they get a value around of a 2nd + back for Murray

I hate to be that guy but you cant decide the outcome of one trade by another, unless most of the pieces are re-dealt. This was a big loss.

I don't think you can honestly say either way yet. If Kapanen scores 50+ points and fits next to Crosby next year, I would have been happy to pay more. We paid more than the perceived value of Kapanen, but that doesn't mean the trade can't still be a win long term

They should trade for Matthias Ekholm honestly. Nashville could be in tough to protect 4 Dmen. But now they don’t have much to offer

I actually think Kap will be a great fit for PIT. He's fast and pretty physical. It's just what they gave up to get him is a bit rough.

Think they’ll see what they have in POJ before adding another LD. Pens wouldn’t be able to protect him either
