Dont think the Leafs are going to trade a 2nd for a guy whos had trouble showing hes more than a 3rd pairing defenseman.

Just no. Why would the canes trade fleury for a second and then bring back TVR? Fleury is way better than tvr and u could get him on the same contract. We also are in no way resigning vatanen, he was ok during the playoffs but not good enough to put another long term contract on the books

Oh, I'd love that trade from an Oilers perspective

I assume you want to get rid of Nino's contract. Otherwise I don't see how the Canes aren't giving up too much. Anyway, that's a yes from Edmonton

that isnt true but cool.

I dont think we move fleury for a 2nd rounder. We look to improve the team with the deal, no dump him. Plus Fleury is better than TVR.

this seems like a very Ken Holland type of moves

Skjei as a scratch. C'mon now.

U haven’t watched Haydn fleury recently obviously. I would be pissed if the canes moved him for a second round pick, he has taken huge series forward this last year

EDM has about $11m of cap space with only 16 roster players out of a typical 23 currently signed. So with Nino + Mrazek, they now have about $2.5m to sign 5 players. I don't think EDM can take on that much salary for those two.

Edmonton would need to do some other moves. I dont think moving Larsson would be hard. We could take on Chaisson instead of the 3rd, if necessary.

Its nice to think hes something more but thats not reflected in his stats or advanced numbers. Seems like its just a homer take.

Fair. Yeah, there would have to be salary going back from EDM if this were to work. Ultimately, I don't see Holland putting all of that work into getting Puljujarvi back in EDM for him to trade him at the last minute.

imo, Skjei is the worst dman out of all of them.

the numbers dont say so. The eyeball test does make you cringe alittle though.

with an xGA/60 in the 6th percentile, I think the numbers say the same thing as the eye test

But what team would actually want those players? The only one that I could really see a team taking on is Chiasson. No one wants Russell, and it would look bad on Holland to trade Kassian just after signing him. Kassian won't be traded.

Slavin
Hamilton
Pesce
Fleury
Gardiner
Skjei

Thats how I rank our Dmen.

Fleury might be my fav Canes Dman. If you havent watched him recently, hes been playing out of his mind. I hope it sticks

at 21, probably rushed, but played alsmot 17 minutes a night and good numbers. scoring wasnt there but played a solid game.
22, we decided to trade for Dougie and sign CdH. Obviously, those two will play above him and he was probably rushed anyways.
23, finally gets back into it. Once Dougie and Pesce went down he got his opportunity and ran with it. He was a top 4 defender after January 1st both in play and stats.

in his time with the Canes, his xGA was very good, especially during the playoffs.

if xGA/60 was used in a vacuum, Slavin and Seth Jones would be crappier defenders than Skjei. We know that isnt true. Advanced stats are cool but they can be cherry picked.

I mean you dont have to rate the player but i can guarantee you that he would be a large upgrade to anyone the leafs have outside of Muzzin and Reilly. Fleury was the canes second best dman after dougie hamilton went down and in the playoffs. That is not a homer take in the slightest, anyone who has watched Haydn Fleury's development would say that he truly hit a turning point in his career this season. I as much as anyone thought he was nothing more than a 3rd pairing guy before this season, but he proved a lot of people wrong this year

I mean plus minus can only tell u so much but he was a plus 4+ in the playoffs. Im not sure why eveyone hates on him, i have liked him since he became a cane. He can play physical, is great at rushing the puck up the ice, and is decent enough defensively. I mean he missed a couple of coverages, but he also has only had limited time in the canes system. I have much more objections with Gardiner than i do Skjei

Noone is looking at +/-. His advanced numbers wernt great this season. Theres nothing suggesting hes ready for an elevated role. Carolina and their fans tend to be big into these advanced stats and they just dont support your case at all here.

when you look at his entire season, yes. Fleury was in and out of the lineup and got nothing for minutes a lot of the time. His play was uninspiring to say the least. Post injuries his play rose significantly TOI and quality. His look pre January first and post are much different. Post January 15th is good too. Im cool with keeping him and not settling for a 2nd round pick.

Im sure you can understand that for other teams the argument that 'sure he wasnt very good over the duration of the season but he was really good for the last month and a bit so pay us like hes that player' isnt very compelling.
