Krug Korpi and more

Created by: Cham
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 30, 2020
Published: Aug. 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
"What’s that? Ah - Playoffs? Don’t talk about - playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a game." - Jim Mora - Hawks fans for the last three years

The only downside with this team is that in 2-3 years when you need to resign a bunch of guys they'll need to make lots of decisions on who to keep, but there's still all of our D prospects and two good forward prospects along with our 1st this year which should allow us to replace guys with younger talent.
Ideally Krug and Toffoli don't get NMC/NTC's so we have the option to move them if they can be replaced by younger players down the road.

Trades
1.
CHI
  1. 2020 4th round pick (NJD)
2.
CHI
  1. 2020 7th round pick (CHI)
MTL
  1. Kämpf, David
  2. Smith, Zack
Additional Details:
Sounds like Montreal needs to move Domi and Danault so here's a good 4C and a bad contract with one year to lower the value
3.
CHI
  1. Manson, Josh
Additional Details:
Mansons compete level and physicallity is unmatched by most of the hawks roster as well as being a solid defensive player that Beaudin and other young guys can feel confident playing with
ANA
  1. Murphy, Connor
  2. Sikura, Dylan
Additional Details:
Murphy has the edge in offensive skill over Manson and is cheaper
4.
CHI
  1. 2020 6th round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
A Sens fan said last time I made a similar trade that Seabs fourth year makes it hard to justify but they could get rid of that fourth year by flipping him to Seattle or 2023's version of the Senators, also Seabs could end up on LTIR for the remainder of his contract as soon as this year considering half his body weight is made up of stitches.
OTT
  1. Nylander, Alexander
  2. Saad, Brandon ($3,000,000 retained)
  3. Seabrook, Brent
  4. 2021 1st round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Flip Saad with even more retained for more futures
1st could also be a 2nd and prospect
5.
CBJ
  1. Teplý, Michal
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (CHI)
  3. 2022 5th round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
I really don't know what Korpi's value is but I'm assuming its comparable to Georgiev's

When have you ever seen a deal like that Ottawa one? Teams don’t do that

Bad teams don't take on bad contracts for futures?
I've seen quite a few deals like this. (ex: Hossa a few years ago)

Habs don't have to move either, they have cap space to resign them both if they wish. Danualt still has next season left on the current deal before UFA, Domi is RFA now.

And I'd be fine with moving all those pieces to get rid of Seabs contract so if the hawks could do it for cheaper then even better.

Domi just seems to me like he's getting moved from every report I've heard due to them needing to pay him 2C money to be on the 3rd line, and Danault said a few days ago that he doesn't want a strictly defensive role which Montreal has bottlenecked him into.
I don't disagree with you that they shouldn't move them and in that case, the hawks just find another suitor

Seriously? That much to get rid of a contract? That’s too much you are giving. It wouldn’t take a second liner, 3rd liner, and a 1st. Especially on a team that has the cap, and is rebuilding so they don’t need the cap.

From a Hawks fan POV Saad is going to walk in a year, Nylander I've seen enough of especially come playoff time, and this team is built to be good enough next year to be giving up the roughly 20th OA pick
From a Sens fan POV Seabs third or fourth year they'll likely need the cap space to resign their young guys coming off ELC's not to mention that Melnyk is extremely cheap.

Okay. Just don’t think it would cost that much.

There’s almost zero chance anyone takes on Seabrook contract with it being a flat cap with minimal rise for the foreseeable future. 4 years is too long. If he ends up not playing again then there could be takers.

Domi might get traded (but he's more of LW going forward for Habs). Habs seem to like Evans as 4C, with Danault, Susuki and KK slotted for top 9 C. (and maybe Poehling for 3 or 4C in a year or two).
Habs immediate needs are a top 9 RW with size, or a #1LD who's a PP quaterback, (so not a Ghostie or a Leddy)

I think that possibility is enough for a team to take a chance on the futures and a bad contract that they potentially don't have to worry about in a year, The bad thing about it is that the earliest that his contract could come permanently off the cap from LTIR would be during next season and the hawks would be able to eat the salary, but wouldn't be able to make the signings prior to him going on LTIR. It's really just wishful thinking on my part.

It’s 4 years so a team like OTT shouldn’t do that. Yes they have space now but after this draft they should be playoff contenders in 2-3 seasons and then possibly legit contenders in 3-4 season and that cap space could be used to add a missing piece.

4 years is just too long. Teams can turn it around in 4 years.

I don't think we'll trade Korpi for the sake of trading him. He's cheap and we don't have an issue with the expansion draft as Elvis is exempt. If we can get help in the top-6 then we'll consider it.

Agreed, this deal does nothing for columbus, they definitely decline.

Ottawa rejects. Zaitsev would need to be going back the other way.

Switch out Saad for picks.

I know that you wouldn't trade him for the sake of trading him but that isn't what this is or necessarily what Jarmo will do. I've seen multiple reports and articles saying that Korpi may be traded bc the Jackets org. is higher on Elvis and you guys have three good goalie prospects. If he along with Josh Anderson and others are moved it looks like it's either for scoring help or to recoup picks/prospects you've lost from last years deadline.

I agree with you that the only way we'd see a Seabrook to Ottawa trade irl is if Zaitsev or Ryan comes back so take that as you will. Saad was traded with retained salary so that you could flip him at 1.5M for a better package than the hawks would've given you.

Agreed that we could trade him for scoring help. But definitely not for recouping picks/prospects. Friedman confirmed the former today in 31 thoughts.
