5th for Johnson ($1M ret), Bjorkqvist, 2nd

Honestly, you get the pick of one: Bjorkqvist, 2nd, $1M ret. ... NOT all three, not even two.

But Crosby is not letting Johnson get traded so it is irrelevant. The sooner Pens fans accept this the sooner you can move on.

I don't think you understand that trade with Johnson. The penguins would be giving up a prospect (evaluate that prospect how you will but he's been mentioned in other AGMs), the 2nd, and retaining value on Johnson's deal. Now if you want to say a 5th is too much for that sure you could convince me to drop that to a 6th or 7th. I don't think Crosby is the one pining for Johnson to be on this team anymore I'm sure he'd like for his friend to stick around and I'm also sure given a player of his stature he probably doesn't feel one guy is an anchor on the team like a fan base does but since the season ended there is one guy Crosby has told Rutherford to not move and that's Malkin. I honestly don't think Johnson gets moved but this is just a scenario not something that I definitely think is going to happen.

JJ would cost like a second to dump. Doing so with retention makes no sense for Pittsburgh

I could be convinced that no retention is necessary but if you go to other scenarios involving Johnson you've got people saying moving Johnson starts with a first so this scenario was my compromise on the two. I think a second and bjorkqvist could get the job done. I also want to be clear I don't think Rutherford would do any retention because he doesn't seem to want to admit that the deal was a mistake but this was just another scenario to move his contract. Also the retention made the contract exactly like Hunwicks from a few years back so there was that factor as well for why I chose the 1 million in retention.

Pens typically don't retain salary and his buyout really isn't that bad, summer 2021 it probably happens as is

he's bought out next year.
He is either traded this year, or bought out.
The cost to keep him is the same as to play him. They will buy him out and move on.

No, you are grossly overpaying to move Johnson.

You've got people on this site saying that Andersen in Toronto is a top 5 goalie in the league. You've got people on this site saying that Saad is the premier 2way power forward in the league.

No one thought that Eriksson's contract was moveable. No one thought that Rutherford would be able to move Gudbranson without adding a 2nd, if not a 1st.

Rutherford is not retaining, and giving a 2nd, and adding a prospect to move Johnson.

Friedman's 31 Thoughts ... Hearing that Johnson is not being made available to trade.

Crosby wants him in Pittsburgh, he is staying in Pittsburgh. Accept it.

Ok I see what you're saying it was just worded oddly in the last comment. This was just a scenario may be an overpay but its something that could be done. I personally don't really have any issues with Johnson being on the team I'd prefer that 3D slot being used on someone cheaper but that's not the biggest issue facing the team.

Which 31 thoughts did Friedman say this because this hasn't been reported by any Pittsburgh reporters and if Friedman reported it the local reporters would at least be commenting on his report. Also why do you seem so bothered by fans wanting him off the team? There are a multitude of reasons for why Pittsburgh fans want him gone and them armchair GMing it isn't that big of a deal

Rutherford probably isn't doing that but neither of us are Rutherford. This is a website to armchair GM and that's what we both did this isn't a practice in what will the team do just something that could be done.

yeah the 95% wrong but read me for click bait crowd, who cares what they say.

Here are facts. JJ was out the door on the zucker trade but Phil nixed it.
So lets not pretend he won't get traded or bought out.
They did their part, they signed him.

Kessel might have mixed the Wild trade, but Johnson being part of it was just rumor.

Because it makes the AGMs worthless and a waste of time. No better than all of our worst players for all of your best.

His cap hit is going to be there. Accept it, work around it.

I don't think that was rumor. I think the deal was as solid as it came. It was JJ and Rask back the other way.

Now I'm not saying the Rask contract is any better, but it's just a fact. He would have moved him if he could have.
I don't think Crosby is getting in the way of that. Even he knows he's bad for him winning another cup at this point. But he got him a deal and that's that. Where it's played out isn't really the issue.

But no doubt he's bought out next year. I honestly don't think an aging Crosby has much leverage at this point considering what they have already done for JJ for him.
