ArizonaWinnipeg 3-Team Trade

Created by: akoeppel08
Team: 2020-21 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 7, 2020
Published: Sep. 7, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
What do y'all think is fair/not fair in this three team trade?

Colorado gives up: Bowen Byram (to Winnipeg), J.T. Compher (to Arizona), Alex Beaucage (to Arizona), 2021 1st (to Arizona), 2020 4th (to Arizona)
Arizona gives up: Darcy Kuemper (to Colorado), Derek Stepan (to Winnipeg)
Winnipeg gives up: Nikolaj Ehlers (to Colorado), Mathieu Perreault (to Arizona w/ 2M retained by COL), Tucker Poolman (to Colorado)

Obviously this doesn't work if Arizona is dumb and still thinks it can contend with minor changes to its current roster, but otherwise Arizona sheds salary and gets draft picks/prospects. Winnipeg gets a young defenseman (Byram) and a second line center in Stepan who will produce a lot more in any offensive system that isn't Arizona's. Trading a washed-up Perreault also sheds salary for the Jets.

For the Avs, Kuemper solidifies the goalie position, Ehlers completes a dominant top 6, and Poolman adds defensive depth in case Timmins isn't ready/plays badly. Jumbo Joe and Rowney add bigger/more physical players to the bottom 6. And no, adding Ehlers doesn't mean the Avs have problems resigning Landy or Makar next year bc players like Cole, Calvert, Thornton, etc come off the books.

Would you do the same deal with Connor instead of Ehlers?

Sabres would give you Reinhart, Ullmark, and that 2nd for the Arizona deal plus Grubauer. Cause that doesn't get you Ehlers. You can keep Byram and flip Ullmark and a 3rd for Kuemper.

Probably... I do think Ehlers is more likely to be traded though even if he is better overall.

Extending Reinhart and keeping Byram would cause cap problems whenever Byram's ELC is up. I think the deal is at least close to Ehler's value though and would rather make that deal work than trade less of a package for Reinhart.
