at this point, with a bunch of teams looking to dump their bad contracts with young assets or futures, Detroit SHOULD want big contracts

I could care less about losing JVP.
But a Subban move to Detroit is to dump salary. Won't help the team and will wrap up $9M against fixed cap for two years.

No thanks, at all. This is a massive W for NJD. Confusing Yzerman for Chiarelli.

I'm open to taking on Subban's entire contract for two years. Detroit can absorb the whole thing without a worry in the world. However, this is just ludicrous honestly. Take on a horrible contract for more than a season and lose draft positioning for a less than serviceable defenseman (based on this season) and a young, promising goalie? Replace losing draft positioning for picks that make sense (must include at least one of those 2020 firsts) and probably another prospect or two and we're talking. $9M is a lot to unload on someone.

I'm not entirely certain that NJD even needs to do this looking at their long term outlook. Ride out the bad contract if you can. And don't give away the future goalie while keeping a guy that hasn't performed well for a while now.
