| | - | | A no-brainer pick for the Rangers. LaFreniere will be joining a team that is already gifted offensively. With LaFreniere on the Rangers top-six, the Rangers offense will be tough to stop. LaFreniere is mostly known for his elite playmaking skills and has a play style similar to Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks. LaFreniere could also provide leadership being the captain for Rismouski this season. |
| | - | | There have been rumors that the Kings are willing to swap their pick with the Rangers to get LaFreniere. But at the same time, there are scouts saying that the Kings have gained more interest in Stutzle over Byfield. Stutzle is the better option because he is more NHL-ready than Byfield and that he is older. Also, the Kings have many center prospects (Vilardi, Turcotte, and Kupari) that are ready to make the jump to the NHL soon. |
| | | | Why Rossi over Byfield? One reason is because Byfield is younger. The other reason is because Rossi plays in Ottawa, so the Senators would know more about him. This would be the first shock of the draft because Rossi normally wouldn’t be a top 3 selection. Rossi is a great point producer (he had 120 points this season) and an elite playmaker. If Rossi makes the Senators out of training camp, he will likely become their No. 1 center alongside Brady Tkachuk. |
| | - | | This may be another shock, but the Red Wings have gained a lot of interest in Perfetti and Lucas Raymond. The Red Wings could draft Byfield, but his age would be the reason he drops. Detroit’s winger depth is deeper than their center depth, so drafting Raymond wouldn’t make sense. Perfetti could play on the wing, but he is mostly a center. The Red Wings have taken risks in the past, for example, when they draft Seider last year. Some scouts have said that Perfetti has the best hockey IQ in the draft. His playmaking skills are outstanding as well, and Perfetti will likely be the No. 2 center in Detroit. |
| | - | | The Senators have a lot of prospect defenseman in their system, so drafting a defenseman wouldn’t make sense. Drafting a center wouldn’t make sense either since they drafted Rossi two picks ago. So the smart choice would be a winger, and Raymond is the best available. It could take a while for Raymond to make an instant impact, but he has the offense to make the NHL. There are rumors that Ottawa could trade this pick, which wouldn’t make sense because their pick last year was traded. |
| | - | | This would be a shock to everyone if Byfield falls outside the top 5. Byfield will fall because of his age (he is one of the younger players in the draft) and because teams have gained interest in other players. This is a steal for Anaheim, they get their potential No. 1 center of the future. Byfield will likely start off as their No. 2 center if he makes the NHL. Someone in this draft is likely to fall because this is one of the deepest drafts we’ve seen in a while. I would not be surprised if Byfield gets selected earlier. |
| | - | | The Devils have had a trend of drafting centers, so going for a winger would make sense. The Devils defense and goaltending took a big turn by improving, so leaving it untouched would make sense, especially with Ty Smith turning into their top prospect in the system. Holtz is a true goal-scorer and his playmaking abilities aren’t bad either. It may take a year for Holtz to develop and make the NHL, but he will be worth the wait. |
| | - | | The Sabres have drafted forwards in three of the past four drafts, so drafting more wouldn’t make sense. Drafting a defenseman would be more reasonable and after a year of development, Sanderson can fit into the Sabres top-four. Also, I have heard rumors that the Sabres could trade this pick. |
| | - | | The Wild have a trend of acquiring two-way talent, so Lundell would be a perfect fit. His two-way game is outstanding and some scouts have said that he could play in the NHL next season. |
| | - | | Another shocking pick, as Drysdale is projected to be picked in the top 5. Thank me later Jet fans. Depth at defenseman has been an issue for the Jets this season so picking Drysdale would make their depth so much better. I would not be surprised if Winnipeg drafts a future No. 2 center with this pick, but Drysdale would be the smart option if he falls to No. 10. |
| | - | | Special teams have been a thing that the Predators have struggled with for the past two seasons. Mercer is a power play specialist and a solid penalty killer, so he can fix the issues that the Predators have had with special teams. Another solid option would be Askarov with Pekka Rinne aging. Fun fact: NHL writers have said that Askarov plays a similar style to Pekka Rinne. |
| | - | | With Mike Hoffman and Evgeni Dadonov potentially going to free agency, the Panthers would need to fix their offense. With Quinn being the best goal-scorer in the draft, he would fit that mold. |
| | | | The Hurricanes have a very deep defensive core. Gunler has goal-scoring instincts which is what the Hurricanes need. Secondary scoring. It may take a while for Gunler to develop, but he will be worth it. |
| | - | | After Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen, the Oilers goaltending depth is thin. Both those goalies are in their prime so drafting a young goalie with the potential to be a starter would be crucial. |
| | | | With the trade of Kapanen and the rumors that Johnnson being on the trading block, the Maple Leafs would go for offense. After a year of developing in college, Holloway could potentially replace Kapanen or Johnnson. |
| | - | | The Canadiens currently lack size and physicality. Guhle has a great size at 6’3’’ and also brings a physical element to his game. He also has a great shot and has established himself as one of the top defenseman in this draft, probably No. 3. |
| | - | | The Blackhawks have a lot of veteran defenseman in their system. Drafting Schneider, who is not for from making the NHL, could replace a guy like Duncan Keith or Brent Seabrook. |
| | | | With the Devils taking a forward with their last pick, they should take the best defenseman available. At this point, it is Justin Barron, who was a top 10 pick before the season paused. |
| | - | | With the rumors that Sean Monahan could be traded, the Flames need a center to replace him. They will take the best center available, which is Zary. At this point, Zary is also the best player available. Like Monahan, Zary plays an offensive game but is mostly known for playmaking. The Flames shouldn’t take a defenseman, they already have several young NHL defenseman that is built for the future. |
| | | | With their third pick of the first round, the Devils would go off the board and take a player that could fill their depth. Brisson is a player that could play at any position on the ice. |
| | - | | The Blue Jackets are a team that love to take risks. They did so when they traded their 2019 first round pick to Ottawa as well as they drafted off-the-board in 2018 when they selected Liam Foudy. But Forester would be the perfect player for them because he has goal-scoring abilities. Something the Blue Jackets lacked this season was scoring goals. |
| | | | After getting LaFreniere, the Rangers would get a steal here. The Rangers don’t have many playmakers on their team, and Lapierre is that type of player. He could become a depth player for the Rangers. |
| | - | | In the playoffs, the Flyers lacked scoring on their power play and penalty kill. Jarvis excels in those categories. His start to the season was slow but he bounced back after Christmas. |
| | - | | Colorado’s defense is set for the future, with Byram and Makar. All they need is a second-line center. Perreault could be that type of center within a few seasons. But the goal-scoring is at the NHL level. |
| | - | | The Capitals are looking thin on defense. At this point I think there will be teams that will draft players off the board. I wouldn’t say this is completely off-the-board, but most scouts don’t have this player drafted in the first round. |
| | - | | The Blues have a lot of young offensive weapons. With Alex Pietrangelo potentially leaving the Blues, they will need a future top-four defenseman. Wallinder could be that player within a few seasons. |
| | | | After stealing Byfield at No. 6, the Ducks will draft the best defenseman available. O’Rourke is an off-the-board pick, but at this point he is the best defenseman available. |
