Josh Mason

Created by: Chigurrhh
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 13, 2020
Published: Sep. 14, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Josh Manson hasn't had the best few seasons however he still caries a small positive impact on both defense and offense.

The Anaheim Ducks are supposedly the only team in the league without any analytics staff. They also gave up an actual asset to get Erik Gudbranson last year. This is the last, best chance of getting rid of Jack Johnson.

I like McCann and don't want to see him traded. But if it's going to happen, so be it. Here's a way that it could possibly help the team, especially if Poulin is ready.

Manson can likely thrive in easier minutes and the two years remaining on his contract fits what the team has with its closing window (since Letang and Malkin also only have two years left).

Leaves a bit of cap space to later figure out the 3/4C situation.

Reasonable to expect a 2nd and a mediocre prospect coming back from some team. Carolina is just one example.

  2. McCann, Jared [RFA Rights]
  3. 2021 2nd round pick (PIT)

  5. 2022 3rd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
First is lottery protected. General idea for the trade.

Expensive, sure, but this gets rid of Jack Johnson and gets a good defenseman.

They took Gudbranson last year and wanted him in free agency two years ago. Johnson was just as bad then.

Oversimplified,

He has a 4% positive impact on his team offensively (red areas have more shots than the average blue is the opposite.

On defense, the attacking team is -1% worse with him on the ice.

Not really much worse. Gudbranson is pretty bad (though he was much better in Pittsburgh). Also, we all know he sucks. But Murray, Rutherford and apparently Holland wanted him in free agency two years ago. Murray still doesn't have an analytics staff. He's big, hits and comes with salary retained. If any GM is dumb enough to do it, this is it.

More reason for them to bring in a very similar player then lol. Gudbranson's numbers in Vancouver were just as bad as Jack's.

We have a plethora of good young LHD. We wouldn’t trade one just so we can make room for Jack Johnson. That’s a horrible ide

I mean, who else is going to teach them not to let their parents control all of their money and take out expensive predatory loans to buy Ferraris and beach houses?
