Isles core Belmont year because thats what matters

Team: 2021-22 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 14, 2020
Published: Sep. 14, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Lou said from the start that he's building a team for Belmont. So I will push this team out to the '21 season and focus on the true core of this team:

Barzal
Beavillier
Pulock
Pelech
Toews
Dobson
Sorokin

Extras (will be over the ~26 range for the true core, but still needed):
Nelson
JGP
Mayfield

When looking at this core, these guys are all in their 20's which is a perfect cup window. Get lucky with someone like Wahlstrom/Holsmtrom/bellows panning out, and it looks even better.

I have my worries about Ladd hitting LTIR. Boychuk may cost a first to move. Not really the point but things that stuck out.

What I feel really lacks here is a pure goal scorer. Brock has been on fire and a guy who can fill that role but the team needs another to play alongside barzy. Lee gets goals but isn't a dynamic goal scorer. Bailey has incredible value right now and I think trading him for a goal scorer may be a great fit. Unless Bellows, Whalstrom or Holstrom pans out.

Also gotta see who Seattle takes. Obviously won't be a core guy but we could pay them to take a contract or two and be able to sign a UFA

Completely agree.

1) yeah, will probably cost more to move boychuk but the picks are there so not the point

2) Yep the goal scorer is missing. I wanted to throw in a trade but didn't think this was the team for it (hence hoping Whalsomtr/Holmstrom/Bellows pan out). It's considered a hot take in the isles community, but I agree if there was ever a time to trade bailey, it is now. Not sure what kind of return isles could get but it would need to be flipped for a top line winger.

3) Would be great if Seattle did a similar deal to Vegas and take a bad contract. Not sure if it'll work out like that but it would be very ideal.

I have the same concern. Personally I'm open to trading him if it got a top-line winger, but I doubt that would be the case. Only hope is he takes these playoffs as a learning experience.

I like it. Going to be hard to dump Boychuk though, and also not sure what the return for Leddy would be anymore, some games I think we could get a decent pick in return, other games I feel like we might have to give up a pick to dump him lol.

Just retain about 2 million of Boychuks salary and ship him to Ottawa. Melynks the 2020 version of Wang and will love the cheap salary.

Trading Toews would be a huge mistake. He’s by far our best driver of offense - fans are overreacting because of a bad playoff performance, he has over 100 game sample size of borderline elite play 5v5
