OEL will cost $10.5M in real dollars and is mid-backloaded, Arizona cannot afford that, Toronto could absorb that bill. Kerfoot and Johnsson have to make the cap work, will combined cost less than half OEL in real dollars with decreasing salaries, and team controlled for 3 years for a team that will have trouble attracting free agents and need scoring.
Crouse is the sweetener steal at 50% retained for 2 years before becoming RFA; the price to take on the long commitment of OEL's contract. Gives Toronto some size and physical presence in their forwards.
This deal would have to include the Andersen for Kuemper swap from the Leafs perspective and again saves Arizona $3.5M real dollars which is very important.
Rosen and Lyubushkin are tweener pieces added swapping a LHD with more offensive ability to Arizona and Toronto gets a stay at home RHD to fight for a depth spot on their roster.
Toronto gives up some draft capital and prospect capital in Bracco who needs a fresh start and could earn a spot on the Coyotes.
Without Kuemper for Andersen being included and a sweetener in Crouse to infuse into Toronto's mix, it doesn't make much sense for Toronto to take on OEL. And then it comes down to whether Toronto thinks the trade as a whole is worth taking on OEL for the term and dollar figure - Rielly, Muzzin and OEL on the left side wouldn't be a bad thing.
