Honestly would decline for oilers however I do really respect the offer it to me is very fair and reasonable. Reason for declining is money factor if he’s looking for anything over 3 million wouldn’t be in the budget and obviously he deserves a bigger payday.

Avs trade is gross for Pittsburgh

they pay 6M over three years to give Colorado a 50 point winger and get nothing in return ?

hornqvist hasn't hit 50 since 2015-16. he's a 35-45 point player that's getting older.

he's been on pace for 50, in my mind that's a 50 point player

he was on pace for 37 points once you factor in his injuries. he hasn't played an 82 game season in 5 years.

math isn't that complicated... he had 32 points in 52 games... or a 50 point pace over 82 games

you can argue his value due to injury etc. but he plays at a 50 point pace consistently

but never plays 82 games consistently. he's no good to the team on the ir.

Again, you can argue his value due to injury

But in terms of ability he plays at a 50 point pace, or >.6 point/game if you'd prefer to frame it that way

I don't get the point you're trying to make

sure but he's only reliable for 30-40 points because of his injuries. even at $3.5m that's not a great deal considering he's 33 and has 3 more years.

you're basing future performance off of past results

He could play 82 games next season, there's no reason at present that he wouldn't be able to
Will he? Probably not, but there's no guarantee either way
Most players in the NHL don't play 82 games, getting 60+ consistently is fine

wait and see what Smith gets this offseason, and he's not close to as talented
no player of his caliber is getting less than 4M with term

If Hornqvist was available for 3M half of the league would put an offer in, just getting a 7th back is a joke and it makes no sense for the org... what player are you signing for 3M to replace his production?

you're doing the same by saying he plays at a 50 game pace. will he next season? probably not, he's getting older.

smith is 2 years younger and has a better health record. soderberg might be a better comparable.

half the league won't be interested in hornqvist because of the length of his contract and a flat cap. you'd be lucky to get more than a hand full. you could get a comparable younger player in free agency for that price. the 7th reflects how small the market is and the negative value of the last year or two of his contract.

the other alternative to meet the budget is to trade the last 1st to dump tanev or downgrade letang. hornqvist is the best option.

Do you really think a playoff team wouldn't pay more than a 7th for Hornqvist at 3M?
Do you really think the Pens would retain 2M on Hornqvist to free up 3M in cap space?

Those opinions are joke caliber

yes. if his contract was only for 1 year that would be a different story. but $3.5m x 3 years for a 33 year old isn't going to draw many bids.

yes. the rumors are the pens are cutting costs. no one is going to take hornqvist at 5.3m so thats out of the question. eating the 1.8m to move the $3.5m is better than moving letang or trading the last 1st to get rid of tanev.

yeah we are just going to have to disagree

well i can't see them moving the top 6. so i guess that leaves letang and/or tanev.
