Edmonton sees your offer for a declining defenceman and politely asks you to pound sand.

So the flyers give up the better player, the better pick, and the prospect, for 3 million in cap space? Seems like a no for me.

I think Philly could get a pick for Ghost with out having to give anything up as his contract isn't terrible and considering he'll be healthy next season teams might be more interested. If the player was jVR I could see something like that going out to get him off the books but not Ghost

Like it or not this is far more realistic than Chiasson and Russell for OEL

I saw someone else propose this trade earlier. Best case I can make for it is it clears cap space for a potential Pietro run

Who's suggesting Chiasson and Russell?

The deals I keep seeing are much more in line of Nurse, either the 2020 or 2021 1sts, and one of Kassian, Neal, or Russell. Given that OEL has a big contract and isn't the proven commodity he once was, that's more than enough for him as it is, and I'd argue the value's short on Arizona's side.

The package you're offering could likely land Ekblad. OEL isn't worth that package.

Those packages don’t do it either. No interest in Neal Kassian or Russell. I’d switch Bear for Nurse in this deal and drop the 3rd but that’s it

Then you're overvaluing OEL or undervaluing Nurse and/or Edmonton's 1st in either year. Teams don't just take on an $8M hit for the hell of it: Arizona would be expected to take something else back - likely to your chagrin - such that the hits out and in were relatively even.

Gourde isn't waiving for Arizona, And beside why would ownership want a 3rd line player making $5,166,666 for the next 5 years?

Swapping Nurse for OEL equates to a $2.65 increase in cap for EDM. Coyotes are not making a trade in which they increase their cap especially for term like all of those players you mentioned would do

He’s been good in the playoffs and would be a good player to help Hayton learn how to play center. The term does scare me but if he can play like he has this playoffs I’d say it’s worth it. But switch in Johnson/Killorn in this deal I’d still do it.

Which is exactly why Russell's usually thrown in these deals. But you are mistaken about a crucial detail:

Arizona wants to cut cash dollars, not cap. Edmonton doesn't care about cash dollars, but is restricted by the cap ceiling. Russell's owed 37.5% of his cap hit in actual dollars. That's an enticing contract for a once-again cash-strapped Coyotes franchise.

Nurse and a 1st straight up for OEL is too costly. Toss in Russell, a worthwhile move for both franchises, and its very much more tolerable.

Fair enough. But it doesn’t address AZ’s core need, which is offense. They can address it through the draft pick but I’d like to think they want to get someone they can plug in the lineup and play now, which is why I added JP. To be honest I don’t know his value (I’m not sure anyone does tbh, scoring in the Finnish league is great but his NHL track record speaks for itself)
