It’s hard to say. Sidney hasn’t been healthy all the time, which contributes to how many awards he’s won.
I think ultimately it doesn’t really matter who was better, since they’re both truly amazing players for different reasons.
Crosby is the better all-around player, and is definitely the best player of his generation. But he’ll never be the best in NHL history in anything*. Ovechkin may not be the better player, but he’s undoubtably the greatest goal scorer of all time and isn’t under the shadow of Gretzky and Lemieux as a Canadian centre, like Crosby is. I think that probably means that if you talk to hockey fans 50 years from now, Ovechkin will be better remembered, because he’s the greatest goal scorer and Russian player of all time.
But again, they’re both amazing players, who are among the very best of all time.
*Because he’s a centre, a Canadian, and an all-around player.
