Yes you are right but a veteran defenseman Detroit gets no will be a stop gap and with 2yrs left on his contract and a second player with 3yrs left on his, There are other dmen that don't require so much commitment. Take Pánik out and it's an option Detroit would consider.

I really don't get dumping Panik for nothing and giving up Jensen to replace him with Johnsson. Panik's 650K cheaper, significantly bigger and more physical, can PK, had the exact same ES P/G as Johnsson despite playing on the Caps' 3rd line while Johnsson was playing with Matthews and Nylander, and isn't coming off a major knee injury.

Also, Boyd at 3C is definitely not a good idea.
