I’m curious to understand the motivation of Carolina to make such a deal. He’s signed to a great long term deal and that’d make me hesitant to trade him.

Dermott would need to be turned into Liljgren here. Canes have no need for more LD. Also, dump the retention on Martinook, Canes wouldn’t do that. Otherwise, suppose it’s fair if the Canes were to actually deal Pesce, which they very likely won’t.
