Lines your thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</b></div><div>Who wears jersey # 19 is my question ?
Will Spezza give it up to Jumbo Joe.
Jumbo Joe goes to the 4th line center as both him and Spezza take turns, just like Spezza and Goat did last year.
The Russian kid Barbie doesn't make the team and goes back to the KHL.
Mikheyev has asked for contract arbitration, so he'll receive more money. Hard to find many players in their mid 20's with only 1 season NHL experience to compare him too. Kubulik is one, but he manage 30 goals and got a $3.7 million contract based on that.</div></div>
Why do you believe that Micky will get more than 1.25M when he's only got 39 games of NHL experience?

Weaken the Depth to Upgrade the D
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MMXD</b></div><div>I find Engvall is pretty underrated. He’s probably the cheapest option for a 3C you’ll get and I think he can do it. Sandin I’m not sure in because he got bullied a lot defensively and is more offensive like lehtonen. Dermott has a lot to give I think. Sandin I think also would have to be protected if he plays a full season. I think Murray could bite as he will want to prove Pittsburgh wrong and Toronto can front load and add some bonuses. I think he could come a bit cheaper and be solid</div></div>
yeh i agree, you're right about engvall being underrated i just prefer looking at him as a 3rd line winger who can fill in at C if theres an injury than a legit 3c

He's never played consistently in the top 4 on the right side where he's most comfortable and the leafs have had too many defensemen who play the same style as he does that he's never really been given a fair shot

I like the idea of the Rakell trade but Risto isn't that great and Mittelstadt hasn't proven enough.. I think you could get better value for Rakell if you look at the canes or the preds maybe.

Muzzin a better player? That’s debatable. Same as Johnsson. Dermott better than Carrick I’ll give you that.</div></div>
it does have 100% to do with wants and needs for the team LOL. You're not taking into consideration what a team wants and needs on their team to warrant a trade being made... think of it this way,
is Pietrangelo a great player? yes.
Is he worth 8M/year? yes.
would the Leafs/Jets/Flames/Knights sign him too a contract for that much? yes.
would the Sharks/Canes/Preds sign him for that much? no, because they already have too much money tied up in their defense and wouldn't be willing to pay a player like him that much money because their WANTS and NEEDS are different than other teams...
Coming back to the point of the deal you said, why in a year where the Leafs are looking to make the playoffs trade off from a point of weakness in their defense for a forward where they're already strong enough as it is... if you made that offer to a team for instance the preds/canes i could see why they would potentially look at doing that because they're sheading cap and trading from a point of strength to fill a hole in their forward group... either of those teams i think would love to have miles wood and the contract that he is on :)

The proposal I gave you is pretty similar value wise to what you proposed for Severson. Of course the leafs wouldn’t make that trade.</div></div>
it defiantly does have lots to do with wants or needs that's the exact reason why teams make trades lol. It also comes down too where the team is in the standings, the devils aren't going to compete this year so getting younger players/prospects/picks for valuable players on their roster that will be aging out when they're ready to compete is how you rebuild properly.
And that value is nowhere close to the same, Muzzin is a better defensemen and is locked up longer term. Johnsson is a better player than Wood and Dermott is far and above better than carrick

Johnsson is a middle 6 player coming off of a big injury. dermott is a bottom pairing D.
A cost controlled #3 right Handed D on a great salary Is returning more than that.</div></div>
Dermott is a bottom pair D on the leafs right side because he's playing behind Muzzin and Reilly, he's a top 4 on the devils left side who need youth in their defense. Plus miles wood isn't the type of player nor contract the leafs would even be looking at to add to their team.

This, the Canes would want a prospect like Lil back in this deal, but I love the idea of Marinook as the leafs 3c next year he'd be a great fit

Weaken the Depth to Upgrade the D
I somewhat like this, I feel that this is Sandin's year and he should have a shot at playing that 3rd RD slot so saving money there by moving out Dermott could help. Plus I don't think Engvall is good enough to be a 3C at this point (yet) and I think Murray will want a higher dollar amount and more years

miles wood and Connor Carrick for Muzzin?</div></div>
Johnsson is locked up for 3 more years and has a 20 goal season under his belt already which this year would have been the second highest scorer on the Devils. Plus the devils get Dermott who they have control over and can offset the loss of Severson and add some balance on the left side of NJD's defense.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KakkoForMauriceRichardAward</b></div><div>Fat chance that gets you Bonino
Edit: and Kuemper and Severson</div></div>
why is it a "Fat chance?" Bonino has one year left than he's a UFA where as Engvall has 2 and he's a RFA, so Nashville is getting the player who they have control over for a longer period of time... plus Nashville have Johanson/Duchane/Turris/Bonino/Sissons down the middle... they probably want to move out some money up the middle and there won't be any takers on Turris.
Plus, I feel like the Kuemper trade is very fair, the Coyotes are looking for picks and 2 seconds and a cheap prospect they can plug into their lineup and give a shot too seems like a fair offer.

Leaf ideas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>etpeck</b></div><div>Yes canes fans say that because they are not going to trade him and make the team worse. Nylander is the one player the leafs can offer that could arguably make the canes better. The loss of pesce would significantly hurt the defensive group so the player coming in would have to strengthen a different area the same amount or more. Anderson does not offset the loss of pesce and Kerfoot just doesn’t fit anywhere on the canes. The canes like the leafs are a win now team so they aren’t going to make trades for futures that make the team worse in the short term</div></div>
The way I see Kerfoot is he's a versatile player who plays the same style of 2 way hockey the Canes love to play. He would fit really well on their left side as a middle six winger, as he's shown he can play in that position for a stretch in Toronto this year playing alongside Tavares. The Canes do get worse on the back end by trading Pesce I do completely agree with that but looking at their defense core especially on the right side at some point they need to give the opportunity for Fleury to step into that top 4 role. The resign TVR and he's your 3rd pair RD and how much worse is that defense really?
From the Anderson standpoint, he is a very superior upgrade on either goaltenders that the canes have and the canes have quite a bit of cap space this year and could sign Anderson to a 3-4 year contract with both of their goalies expiring next offseason.
You are right tho, I didn't fully do Pesce justice in this trade the leafs would have to offer a prospect or better pick than a 6th.
With the Nylander thing, I believe that he has more trade value than Pesce does despite Pesce playing a more coveted position. No matter how much the media talks down on Nylander, he's signed for 4 more years at under 7M and just put up 31 goals 58 points in 61 games. That's way better value than Pesce
