Based off driedger18 Rielly deal

Created by: TheOtherAuston
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 27, 2020
Published: Sep. 27, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think the Rielly deal was what both teams would expect so I will only make a slight change to it

The NJ deal he made will also be slightly altered

The rest will be what I feel would be a better bottom six

Why the hell would the Rangers give that up for another puck moving defenseman that cant play defense. We already have one of those!

Im basing it off the gm statements, if johnsson doesn't fit that description than idk who does I made the offer better for the Devil's over the original deal I took it from.

That's a pretty inaccurate assessment. Rielly can play defense.

If it was Nylander it's your number 7 pick and nothing less

Edit and liljegren is dropped, and likely another pick from njd

Hard pass on that liljegren trade as the Leafs. Id rather have liljegren that. Whoever is available with a mid first. Stop overeating firsts every year...

I wouldn’t say zero sense. It’s pretty clear we are not going to be able to resign him in two years. He’s going to command a very high cap hit. If the right deal is there Dubas needs to act on it. He would get a really good return.

Our blue line is already extremely thin and he’s a giant part of the team, the number one priority is finding him legit top 4 D parter. The next two years is a large part of their window to win, who even knows if AM34 resigns in 4 years.

The backend is very thin, on the right side. We have Muzzin, Sandin, Dermott, Lehtonen, and prospects Kokkenen, Kral, Hoefemayer on the left. If trading Rielly gives up space to sign AP or trade for a top RD, Leafs need to do it. And come on, Mathews is going nowhere.

Only one player is a top 4 proven dman, and one high end prospect. The rest dont replace Reilly’s 70 points and high minutes. Trading Reilly brings us right back to square one by having two solid dmen and a bunch of question marks. There’s other ways to get petro or other RHD than trading a guy who’s been through it all with the franchise...

Basketball and hockey are soooo different how could you even make that comparison, everyone on the team needs to contribute in hockey not 3 guys carry the entire load

Well the way you talk about Rielly he seems to absolutely carry the defence

Edit: your last statement contradicts your first.

No what I’m saying is we need Rielly because trading him loses even more depth and we already have none

Like it was stated before, there's lots of options on the left hand side. The right hand side is where we have depth issues. Muzzin is more than capable of handling a top pair roll, so long as he gets a better option on the right. If another option is added on the right in the four spot I'm more than confident playing either sandin or Dermott.

How about this stat. No cups since 67 and still not close.

Cool story bro, you've stayed behind your screen for four years on this site and still use +/- even though you have probably read every argument about the stat since then instead of taking part with just 25 posts.
