Bruins will only trade DeBrusk if they get a better LW and it would have to be for a top4 LD.

You arent getting a 4th from the Avs for Russell.
Im sure this is just meant as an anyteam who wants him trade

deal does nothing for Boston and is actually pretty one-sided in EDM favor. The deal breaks down into two parts

Bjork for Chiasson

That leaves

DeBrusk + 2nd for EDM 1st + COL 4th

Lets be honest, the 4th has little to no value in this deal. In reality what you're saying is that for Boston to move up from the 2nd round to the 1st round it would cost DeBrusk...that's just not realistic.

Maybe a 4th is a stretch, but the Avs would benefit of having Russell as a depth D for next year.

1...avs already have too many Dmen as it is, they can trade 2 of Cole Zadorov and Graves this offseason bc they have the luxery to do with timmins and Byram. So adding another Dman is not somethign they would do

2. Russell is the last dman they would add, Avs an analytical savy team who rely heavily on skating as a major asset when making roster decisions, a poor skating black hole of shot suppression who gets by with shot blocking is the polar opposite of who the avs target

Russell is pretty awful, you are going to have to pay some teams to get rid of him, you arent getting even mid level assets from a team like the Avs, they know exactly what he is. A drag on a team when he is on the ice

If Boston moves DeBrusk I imagine they are either looking for a similar aged Top 6 RW or a Top 4 LHD. I don't see a RW that fits that, so I imagine they'd really only be interested moving DeBrusk if one of Nurse or Klefbom were coming back the other way.

That's one. Then, we need to get a top4 LD in the DeBrusk deal. Klefbom is the guy I would target from EDM but don't see them moving him.

he will be a cheaper cost controlled and plays C/W. Since you just extended Coyle, you really have a version of compher already. So NVM was wondering if there was a deal there if Bruins were trying to make cap space for a bigger move either going after a big UFA or the OEL trade

Honestly sign Hall and keep DeBrusk..

Marchand - Bergeron - Pasta
Hall - Krejci - Studnicka
DeBrusk - Coyle - Kase
Bjork - Kuraly - Wagner

DeBrusk won't get an opportunity to become a top6 guy in this case. It can work for one year but Marchand and Hall will still play for 5+ years so he'll end up requesting a trade. Not of fan of Bjork on the 4th line either, especially with 4th liners like Kuraly and Wagner.

If it's for short-term, fine. Would also need another way to get a top4 LD because if you plan on keeping Chara/Lauzon/Vaakanainen on LD2 and LD3 all year, just make a move for a real top4 LD & use 74/10. Part of why the Bruins have been in the elite the past years is because of their defense.

What's going to make him a "top 6" guy (BTW imo he already is)? More likely than not it'll be around production, no? He'll have better match-ups playing on the 3rd line and statistically plays better with Coyle, so you're setting DeBrusk up to succeed if you ask me. Take the pressure of the kid of having to be one of the teams top goal scorers, get him some better matchups and let him learn/develop some more without being a guy who needs to be leaned on heavily.

If you really wanted to you could start Studnicka in the AHL next year (waiver exempt), slide Bjork to 3RW and Kase up to 2RW. I think Studnicka earns a spot at camp though. As for Bjork, I'm not a huge fan of him on the 4th line either, but that's where he would slot unless he was traded for a LHD. I think he's capable of playing on the 4th line and I'd like to see Boston shift more towards a balanced skill/physical 4th line vs just a "energy" line

For the defense: Grz would be back and I really think Chara comes back on another 1yr deal. So Grz slides up to Krug spot next to Carlo leaving the 3rd pairing to be a battle between Lauzon, Clifton, Vaak, Ahcan. Maybe Boston kicks the tires on Ghost and send Bjork+ a sweetener to get PHI to retain a bit of Ghost cap hit. The thing with Boston success defensively is it isn't just about the d-men. Rask is a HUGE reason for the team success and the forwards are defensively responsible as well. If the deference between this years defense and last years is Krug out / Lauzon, Vaak, Zboril in....then you really didn't get worse from a defensive standpoint, in fact you probably got better.
