Description
A version of what I would like to see for this upcoming offseason. Tried staying as realistic as possible while still improving the team. Assuming that Johns starts the season on LTIR, and Khudobin signs somewhere else in FA.

Trades
1.
DAL
  1. 2020 3rd round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Ottawa has seven picks before the third round, making one of the two they own expendable. Dallas doesn't have a third and could use one in a very deep draft.
OTT
  1. Cogliano, Andrew
Additional Details:
After buying out Bobby Ryan, Ottawa could use a leader/mentor to help the kids get through next season, which is exactly what Cogliano provides.
2.
DAL
  1. Dermott, Travis [RFA Rights]
  2. Engvall, Pierre
Additional Details:
Dermott seems to have a short leash in Toronto, will not be given a chance at RD where he could excel.
Engvall is a cap move for Toronto, and an energy forward who could take Cogliano's spot with Faksa and Comeau in Dallas
TOR
  1. Robertson, Jason
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (DAL)
  3. 2022 4th round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Robertson likely won't get a chance to move up the lineup in Dallas, would get to play with his brother in Toronto and be a high ceiling/low floor option.

There's definitely merit to the idea of Ottawa needing to add leadership, but that doesn't make Cogliano worth a good pick. He's pretty close to washed up at this point, and what he brings as a locker room guy can be found from about a dozen different UFAs or from cap dumps they could get assets for taking.

There's no way Ottawa pays anything more than a very late pick for Cogliano, if anything.

Also that's a fleece by Toronto.

I'd imagine Dermott has some value on him, even if he had a rough season last year. I like Engvall, too, what would you change to make it more even?

He does, you're right. The way I see it, Engvall is worth the 4th and Dermott is probably worth something like a late 2nd or 3rd. I Just think Robertson is too solid a prospect to hold such little value. I'd say he's worth more than Dermott 1 for one.

He does have a good potential for growth, I think I'm just worried that he's not gonna get the proper chance to prove himself, and Dallas may want to ship him out for something that'll help now, given they're likely to go all-in for the next couple of seasons.
I personally see him developing a lot like Gurianov, where he may take longer than people are expecting, and if he's not in the lineup next year he's gonna start getting the "bust" label.

I like that you're one of the few people on here to keep Faksa, Hintz and Guri. I think we do roll with them going forward.
I think you overpaid a bit for them, but for Hintz you gave us more term on the deal - so, don't hate it.

I don't follow TOR close enough to comment on the trade in terms of value; but, remember that Nill rarely trades prospects unless its a blockbuster deal.

That Robertson trade didn't age well...
