Buffalo says no, I'm sorry but Gaudreau is not worth Cozens, 8th OA and our #2 Dman. Especially with his contract ending in two years.

I think Buffalo declines that. Gaudreau isn't worth that . Joki is a very good young defenseman, Cozens is projected as a 2C, and 8oa could play as early as next season depending on who we get (hopefully Rossi or Lundell)

Noah Hanafin is nowhere near as good as Tony. Hanafin is neither good offensively nor defensively

Exactly why eichel is going to demand a trade soon... you're gifted a top 10 LW capable of putting up 100 points on a cheap contract WITH the ability to resign him. 2 years on a value contract and a player in his prime... nahhh we good with rebuilding ...again.

how did you come up with that conclusion? What exactly is a top 10 LW on a cheap contract for 2 years worth then?

For starters we don't need another LW.

As for Gaudreau's value it would depend on the team in question. Likely a mid 1st and good/solid prospect.
But you wouldn't get a team's Top 10 pick, top prospect and a Top 4 Dman.

What honestly makes you think a ppg player over 6 seasons is only worth a mid first and a good prospect!?!?

Because he wasn't great last year and is only signed for 2 years. Again, I said it would depend on the team in question. He's effectively slightly more than a rental unless the team is NJ or Philly as it is assumed he'll go there upon hitting UFA. Unless you feel you are Gaudreau away from a Cup run, you don't gut your assets for a temporary fix.

I would not give up 1 of those assets for Old John Hockey let alone all 3 of them

So here’s my thing I’m constantly thinking of players who the Sabres can realistically get and afford to keep in the future. Sure Gaudreau is good and I’d love him here but he’s also going to be what 28 next year whenever the season starts? And we’ll have to sign him to extension at some point or else he’s literally just a rental bc he’ll be traded again if we can’t. So why exactly would we trade a good young defenseman and our best forward prospect (where we are not very strong in terms of prospects) plus another 1st for potentially ONE season of JG? I just don’t think the Sabres do it. That’s just my opinion. Another thing is there’s a reason Calgary would even be interested in trading him and that’s because they either 1.) don’t believe he’s a 100 point player anymore and 2.) think he’s on the down turn of his career so I really question why the Sabres would be interested in that to win for 1 season maybe two? Plus do you honestly think JG would re-sign for less money than he’s making now? No, and we have Dahlin to pay next year. Plus I don’t see you guys trading Gaudreau anyways. I don’t even get why you’d do that if he’s that good why not keep him and trade someone else to help him, Monahan, and Tkachuk. Instead of signing Hall I’d just keep Gaudreau and do all those other moves you did

No actually its neither one of those 2. You're missing the entire reason behind it. JG has made it very clear he wants to play closer to home and the chances of him choosing to stay in Cgy IMO are slim. Not too mention he has a NTC that kicks in soon. Either you keep him for 2 more years which would obviously be ideal but then you risk him pulling a tavares and walking for nothing... or you deal him before he has control of where you deal him, which obviously makes dealing him even harder. If i thought there was a really good chance of him re-signing, this wouldn't even be a conversation. But there is fear that he will walk and before his NTC kicks in, deal him before you get nothing. He's 1 season removed from putting up 99 points and still very much in his prime and capable of putting up 70-100 points per szn. I honestly think buffalo, New jersey, new york and philly all have better odds of resigning him as a UFA then CGY does, provided they are then a contending team... which JG with eichel is a no brainer , they should take the next step which is to become a regular playoff team

unless he puts up 99 points every year he's not great? Trust me, he's right in his prime and i believe buffalo has a way better chance of re signing him then CGY does...
