Huge Serg Deal

Created by: LouRules
Team: 2020-21 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 12, 2020
Published: Oct. 4, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
First the Devils send Kyle Palmieri to the Avalanche for their first round pick as part of the Avs' shake-up. They have the cap space to extend him and bolster their second line.

With the 7th pick of the 2020 NHL Draft the New Jersey Devils select the Austrian center Marco Rossi of the Ottawa 67’s of the OHL. With their second pick of the first round the Devils take right winger Dawson Mercer.

Finally, in a franchise altering deal, the Devils send two firsts, picks 18 and 25, as well as Will Butcher at 2 yr $2 AAV to the Lightning for the rights to LHD Mikhael Sergachev, whom they extend for his age 22-29 years at $6.8 AAV. Tampa Bay gets two valuable firsts in a deep draft and space to sign Cirelli and Cernak.

Before the season the Islanders send their 2021 first and Johnny Boychuk to the Devils for Connor Carrick and the Islanders 2021 second they received for Andy Greene. This saves the Islanders $4.5 mil in 21 and $6 mil in 22. Maybe he can toughen up the new rookies Ty Smith and Reilly Walsh.

In the last move of the offseason the Devils extend Nikita Gusev 6 years $6 million AAV, this begins in 2021 and covers his age 29-34 seasons

Seattle Protection: Hischier Bratt Zacha Merkley Kuokkanen McLeod Anderson (Wood)
Sergachev Severson Mueller (Subban Boychuk) Blackwood (Schneider)

Hughes Gusev Smith Boqvist Walsh Foote Rossi Mercer Bahl are exempt.

Tampa declines, Makes no sense to draft Rossi he's at least a 2C in the NHL, And you already have Nico Hischier at 1C and Jack Hughes at 2C doubt he's interested in wing. He's a much better C then winger.

1. If Jesper Bratt signs 7-year deal below $4 million, NJD wins the off-season.
2. NJD probably wouldn't deal Palmieri for Colorado's first pick...it would take an additional prospect.
3. NJD should do that Sergachev deal...even if its picks 18 and 20.
4. NJD doesn't touch the Boychuck deal. Strike the 2nd rounder and its plausible.
5. Rossi would be great pick at number 7 overall...but that would be mean NJD has five top-12 picks from last six drafts at center position on roster. McLeod or Zacha would probably be on the move. (My guess is they pick d-man anyway).

The only reason I think the Isles say no to that trade is because we can't afford to deal off first round picks. We don't have one this season and our prospect pool is already thin.
