As much as I like Krug, and I do, $7 million a year for 7 years is a lot of money and another long contract. I thought we know that long contracts now bite back? That Krug contract made the rest of the team more suspect. You got Ryan playing on the first line! Also, I don't think we should give up on Merkley so easily.

I think Krug and Murray are the exact opposite of what we need. Especially when you look at the forward group and goalies.

Just look at the defensemen's pay. Way way way too much on the blueline. I know defense wins hockey, but forwards and goaltending need to also be addressed.

Aha I love that the SJ D core here ends up being worth more than the F core (39M to 34M) has that ever happened in NHL history?

Nothing like giving up your top prospect and another productive young/cheap player for the opportunity to take on someone else's horrible D-Man cap dump. This is horrible. Hopefully you're still just drunk from the boat parade and don't think this is actually sensible.

Islanders just aren't going to make this trade. We can't trade our cost controlled top 4 d-man for a guy who's only played 80+ games at the NHL level. Plus, doesn't really free up cap space for us.
