IF taking on Johnson’s contract helped value any, it’s zeroed out by sending Ryan to Tampa I would imagine

Ryan's awful contract?? It's one more year at a touch over 3, good contributing bottom 6 C and his buyout is a million bucks for two seasons. That's extremely workable for any team in the league.

Tampa saves almost 4 million and free up 3 and a bit next season when Ryan is done.

You're right, Tyler Johnson's two more points in three less games than Ryan is worth 5 million for the next 4 years, but taking an elite PK guy and a great faceoff guy with 29 points for only one more season is worth 3.5 million less. Hahah get outta here with that.

Montour is going to get more money than that. The deal is fine, They could probably get a better offer though

Walmart is where you go to spend more efficiently, so what you have said is absolutely correct. Ryan kills penalties better, plays D better and put up only two less points last year. You're grasping here.

Are you honestly trying to say Ryan is anywhere near the quality of player that Johnson is? lol man

I think ryan and Kylington aren't helping the deal tampa's kinda set with paying for dmen especially left.
Maybe send ryan and kylington to buffalo..they need another left d and could keep ryan in bottom 6 for a year. Probably need to add something to tampa deal though, i think the trade is a good idea for both teams. And imo stamer for jonny isn't far off.

Is that what you took from that?? I said it's a more efficient player for the Lightning next year. 1 year contract, had two less points, saves nearly two million immediately for the Lightning, at no point have I said that Ryan and Johnson are equal players Ryan is a more efficient fit in the Lightning line up next year and for the next four years of Johnson's contract.

Really good thought, I think if Stamkos was coming to Calgary Ryan needs to be moved out for money reasons. Whether that be in the Montour deal or elsewhere, great idea.

Clearly you folks aren't familiar with Ryan. While putting up marginally fewer points than Johnson, he does so with significantly less ice time and with lower quality linemates. Furthermore, Ryan's underlying numbers are far better than are Jonhson's. And perhaps most importantly, Ryan is extremely important in the faceoff dot, as he wins over 55% of his draws, many of which are crucial defensive zone draws. Oh and Ryan is a PK specialist too.

I would argue that he is an extremely useful player, and absolutely is worth the $3 million he is paid. Definitely a better contract than Johnson (as useful as Johnson might otherwise be).

This is a huge risk for Calgary, mostly because of how injury prone Stamkos is.

Walmart is where you go when you want a cheaper lower quality version of something

Correct, when you can't afford 5, you go for 3.125. and for only two less points and improving the PK for a year.

Love the idea here, the team's centre depth here is fantastic. Really would love to see something like this work out.

If only there were a way to keep Gaudreau in the fold and not have to get rid of any current roster pieces to fit Stamkos. I know it won't happen (works neither from a salary cap perspective nor from a fair trade value perspective), but the thought of having a Gaudreau-Stamkos-Lindholm first line, and a second line with Monahan at centre is tantalizing.
