I didn't know they still got paid. Either way, closest you can get on this website is to put him on LTIR with a "moved on with his life."

Why? If he is healthy a 3rd and 5th is nothing and you lose out on a young 2nd overall player with huge upside. If they re-sign him for a year at a million and he is on IR all year then oh well. Flyers need to re-sign him and wait and see. I could see a player for player trade for another young promising player who is struggling but I'm not trading Patrick for a 3rd and 5th.

I mostly did it because resigning him could be upward of 5M, and with an upcoming resign of star goalie Carter Hart and various depth players, I didn't want to lock into a too-large contract.
But yeah, you've got a point, resigning for a year on a smaller contract might have been better.

He won't get beyond a 2 year deal on the cheap. One year $1-1.25 million works best for all parties involved. Flyers don't have to worry about putting him on LTIR beyond a year and get a potential bargain. Patrick gets some extra cash in the bank on a prove it deal if he can be healthy. I'm hoping he gets healthy and can contribute from a Flyers fan stand but on the human level he seems to be a good level headed kid and hope he finds success whether it be here or somewhere else.
