2020 offseason

Description
This is a general idea of what I hope happens this offseason. One of Panik or Hagelin is gonna be moved. I picked Panik because Hagelin is very valuable on the PK. Travis Boyd wouldn't have a place on this team. He is a serviceable bottom 6 center. But the Caps usually have plenty of them. The Cirelli trade is the one I am not really confident about. If push comes to shove and they can't find a trade for Johnson, Cirelli may become available. Orlov is a weird defensemen. In my opinion he is overpaid. He doesn't really defend well, but when he does, he can be one of the best at it. Offensively he has a cannon of a shot. But he really doesn't get open shots to use it. I don't really expect many of the moves I suggested just because it is a really weird offseason with all the stuff going on around the world. If you guys have any other transactions that may or may not work let me know!

2.
WSH
  1. 2021 1st round pick (STL)
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (STL)
Additional Details:
I feel like if Pietrangelo leaves STL. STL is gonna not be desperate, but will definitely be looking to replace him. Caps need cap space to resign Ovi and Vrana in 2021. So I feel like this could be a deal that benefits both teams.
3.
WSH
  1. Cirelli, Anthony [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
I am not sure if this is an overpayment or not. I know Cirelli would be a real good 2C in WSH.
TBL
  1. 2021 1st round pick (WSH)
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (WSH)
4.
WSH
  1. 2021 6th round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
I just picked a team. He realistically could go anywhere.

You've put a lot of thought into this one, good effort. First, I would say they wait until next summer (after the Q season ends) before they sign Hendrix to his ELC. I think they (and the hockey world) want to see if he's recovered and how his game looks first.

As for Panik, I now believe they would have to send a pick or middling prospect (that said team likes) out with him. Caps can't start sending picks out again as they end up short every year. At some point, they have to covet their picks more and just say NO.

I also don't think they move Orlov. I think they might consider it next year if the Ovi and Vrana extensions become too much, and with a flat cap it just might.

I can't see Tampa moving Cirelli, I would be very surprised. They are in deep right now it's true but Tampa always seems to get bailed out by some one. I say let them burn. They should be sending out a Johnson, a Gourd, a Kilorn with pick or prospect or both. Teams should fleece them to help them out but they always seem to find a sucker...

I like your UFA contracts but don't need Maroon. We have some Hershey kids that finally need a shot.

Im just not a big fan of Orlov. I don't expect him to have an "it" factor. But he's such a liability on the defensive side of the ice.

I agree with most of what you've said. But with Boyd now a UFA and not coming back. Who's gonna be the next man up. Gersich hasn't looked good in Hershey. I guess Sprong could be. But he's been awful during his NHL stints. I think Maroon would be a good player to have if they move on from Panik or Hagelin. The caps need an energy guy, and I personally think Maroon could fit that whole.

Are you sure you don't want Panik? I just picked DET because they've got a decent amount of cap space lol.

He’s actually the capitals best overall defensemen.... I would t trade him at all I think he’s really good. Watch him closely this year he’s actually really good

I probably watch like 70/82 regular season games a year. Orlov just doesn't impress me one bit. He'll show spurts of dominance. But for 5.1mil cap hit I expect better from him. With Fehervary and Alexeyev coming up as well. I can see Orlov being very much expendable in the near future.
