'Officially' - its pretty well known that PhIlly wants to unload that contract for younger better players coming up, and no team has been takers. Pretty easy to conclude he doesnt have value at that cap hit.

As I said, he has been hurt for the past year and a half. 35+ point d men get $4+ mil so assuming he isn't worth his cap is a bad assumption.

I get that the Canes have a history but the history is history. Tom D spends money and wants to win. We were one of the few that didn’t cut operations budget.
We weren’t a sexy option I agree. We have improved facilities, especially practice facility (like 100 times better). Most importantly we are on the upswing finally. We’ll attract more guys as we continue our climb up the rankings.
We are committed to a stronger defense. This team is heavily involved in analytics. Analytically defenders’ production is much easier to predict and has less fluctuations. Goalies on the other hand have very little predictability and higher cost. We get more value and production out of a strong defense supporting a pair of middle of the road goalies than one great goalie supporting a middle of the road defense.

All fair analysis... just don’t know how the cookie will crumble. With Philly, NYI, Wash, and Pittsburgh and NYR and CBJ in the convo... I’m just cautious about losing the asset for nothing from their perspective.

Nobody is taking Jakub without retention. And Hamilton may be on an expiring contract but he’s still one of the best defenseman in the league

Keep in mind this is from Philadelphia’s perspective... I’m putting stuff I think they would do with reasonable value. It may not be enough, but I don’t think they are outlandish ideas. Philly won’t take a d man with term due to expansions
and I see no scenario where they move cost controlled dmen in Sanheim and Myers. Myers has 3 more years of RFA and if you watched him at all in playoffs, the guys a stud. 6’6” physical and potentially only trailing ghost in his skating ability. And Sanny is up next year and should get 4 mill less than a guy like Pietro and has a better chance of living up to the full contract. Everything I read from LeBrun etc says that the Laine deal was discussed starting here. Probably won’t happen anyway.

I disagree. Guys a lock for 60+ points. Think Beakers obviously more valuable but there’s a reason the 2nds going with it.

Assume that the Canes aren’t in playoff position at the deadline... Beaker is most likely moving.

Getting a guaranteed, though slightly overpaid forward, on a team that doesn’t want to and shouldn’t rebuild does make some sense.

It’s pointless to do any Flyers threads because our entire team is looked down upon. I don’t know why that is.

Maybe because we as fans are harsh to our players when they deserve it, so other fanbases turn that into their own twisted interpretation? It baffles me.
