Labanc didn't deserve that much after his play last year, but it's understandable if SJS threw him a lifeline after he had just taken one for the team. It's a very risky contract nonetheless, though.

I think its a fair deal, it seems like a lot because Sharks don't have a lot of cap space. I'm optimistic for now. Next season will tell a lot about this team.

Because they agreed upon that if he took the pay cut last year he’d get rewarded and paid this year. Sharks were looking at big fish last offseason if you don’t remember them trying to sign Tavares. Ultimately they got Karlsson. Not to mention everyone had a down season last year. Sharks will be a team that will bounce back and be fresh/healthy ready to contend again next year.
