Any Andersen trade brings back Reimer or Brazen. That's the whole purpose of Carolina trading a goalie.

Basically Andersen is staying because nobody else wants his contract. If someone offered a bag of donuts and a flat pepsi to take him at full price Tor would take it.

GM's say lots of things then do the exact opposite of what was just said. They can't come out and say, this guy/contract sucks and wish it was gone, but we're stuck with him because nobody else wants it either. Nothing good comes of it. All it does is hurt any possible trade value, and can shake the player's confidence/attitude.

What are you talking about? He's a top 10-15 goalie who takes on a massive workload with a year left and a 1 million dollar salary (5 mil cap hit). He definitely has value on the market to a team like Carolina lol

Lol Andersen is actually only due 1 million. There is absolutely no reason why a team like Carolina wouldn't want him for that price. He is staying because the leafs aren't trading him as Dubas has stated multiple times, it is literally as simple as that.

$5m cap hit, for a rental goalie (goalies aren't worth much in trade to begin with), coming off of a bad year, with lots of FA goalies.

That cap hit means more than $1m owed when the cap is flat. Over half the teams in the league can't afford that cap hit right now. You'd need to pay/retain to get rid of that.

LOL. Okay ya a 936 sv% in the playoffs behind Barrie and Ceci is bad. Alright there bud. Also Reilly and Muzzin missed significant time last season, and without them Freddy had close to no help. Dermott was like the only guy who stepped up. No wonder his stats dropped a bit. There was a specific reason for it, not just "oh he had a bad year so he sucks now". A 5 million cap hit for a starting goalie is a norm these days. Also, again, he is only due 1 million of that and teams who may want to spend a little less would gladly take that. There is no reason the leafs should have to retain on his cap hit at all when another team can simply move out salary if they want him. He is not a cap dump, he is very far from that.

Please do some research before posting something dumb again.

Basing your values on a 5 game sample in the strangest Playoffs ever is funny. I don't care that Tor's defense was bad (neither will other GMs), Andersen still wasn't good. 5v5: -4.47 GSAA, 13 more GA than his xGA, -6.67 xHDGAA, these are the goalie stats independent of the team defense. The Andersen/Hutch combos was just as awful as the Dub/Stalock combo I endured with MN for 60 games last year.

The teams that needed a goalie have already gotten their new ones (I hate MN's goalie signing), and there still some teams floating goalies for trades: Raanta/Kemps, MAF (off the top of my head). The market isn't there, the cap isn't there for at least half (more like 2/3 with RFAs that still need to be signed) the teams, and the teams that have the cap are the ones in the middle of a rebuild and have no need of an expensive (cap hit) rental goalie. Retain half and there will be a team that might bite on him for a late pick/random prospect.
