Not sure how these trades make the Leafs better defensively...well marginally better. Stoner...a guy who went unclaimed through waivers, Despres who's on LTIR. So it's Fowler in place of Hunwick...OK that's an improvement but the Leafs also lose JVR.

My thought process is Fowler and Stoner help us immediately, and if Després can get better from the concussions will be a solid top 4 dman for the future and taking on Stoner and potentially Després contracts we get a 1st the Hunwick trade was to a team needing a little depth I just picked winnipeg but it could be a handful of teams

Hockey mad: Reilly and Gardiner play LHD as do Fowler and Stoner. Does the trade really help the Leafs at LHD that much I(especially at 7.25m).

Anaheim isn't trading 3 D men Fowler, Despres and Stoner maybe Fowler and Stoner Despres is out long term with a concussion any ways so he's not an option.

Well first off Reilly is lefthanded but plays on the right so we aren't handcuffed by if a player we pick up is left or right handed. Secondly, JVR is not a good fit for babcocks system this is why he really can only play on Bozaks line. Third, to get the 1st and Fowler we need to take on deadweight and with the leafs deep pockets we use that to an advantage. Fourth, Fowler and Stoner are familiar with Andersen and his thought process on the ice and may stop the stupid decisions he is making because he doesn't trust the defence.

We have deep pockets and taking on Stoner and Després will help Anaheim get the cap room for Lindholm. but for us to take on their salary we will want an asset that helps now and our future the trade helps Anahiem and helps us.

Actually Rielly can play on his off hand and does very effectively if your going to make statements like this you should do your homework.

Sorry that you flipped on what you wrote, which is being sneakingly dishonest. Now it's Rielly "can" play the right side. Rielly has played little pro hockey on his offside except on power plays. Do my home work? You should try watching some Leaf games.

Well I'm a season ticket holder and have been for years. he also does play on his off hand in 5 v 5 situations. Anyways, you feel your a genius that really has never put out an actual solution to their issues but to show projected lineups that would never make us a true contender at least I'm suggesting players that could actually help us.

Sorry, I'm not a genius to your standards, but having season tickets doesn't make you informative either (if true). My solution for a team 30th place is not to get trade for a guy who going to a UFA in two years, while giving up your only veteran goal scoring winger who is also a UFA in two years. (Fowler and JVR). Having Stoner and a conscussed Depres are not an improvement, admitting the 25th pick might help in 3 years.
I've never put t true contender roster according to you Of course not the Leafs are not in a position to field a true contender in the next few years. And to think Fowler, Stoner and Despres makes them a contender is fallacy.

First, never said being a season ticket holder makes me more knowledgeable than a fan watching from home but I do see Reilly playing on right side alot more than you obviously have. Fowler gives us something we don't have right now in a more physical all round dman. He might not be ideal shutdown dman but down the road he could be a solid player with Zaitsev on the 2nd pair and hopefully solidifying that will make it an easier selling point when going after that free agent you keep talking about that complements Reilly perfectly or maybe allows us to trade for a young RHD that is a top pair dman or has the tools to become one.

I have mostly seen Rielly playing the right side when paired with a left hand D. Marincin and Hunwick are horrible enough when playing on their natural side, probably why Rielly gets bumped to his off side the majority of the time. There are some roster websites that show Hunwick as a right D on the depth chart but thats about it. The games I have seen, this year and last, Rielly is on the right when paired with a left hander.

I hope Palhal reads this. I know Reilly would be a more ideal fit playing on the left but until we trade, draft or sign a top pair RHD it will at least improve the teams D.

I've read it....The Leafs are going with four RHD Dmen these year Zaitsev, Carrick, Polak and Corrado. So three RHD are played a game. Possibly when one is serving a penalty would Rielly play the right side.
Still doesn't make a Stoner or the concussed Deperes an improvement on the Leafs. And in now less than two seasons, Fowler is an UFA, so likely he wouldn't be around when the Leafs are playoff bound better.
Now that Leafs have all these stellar Dmen, who do the Leafs protect next June?

First, Stoner, Despres are add-ons to get Fowler and the 1st. I posted a new roster with an additional trade. this trade if Després can get these concussion issues behind him we win hands down. if not I feel it's a value trade. we would protect Rielly, Fowler, and Carrick from this roster. Marincin though a solid 3rd pair/ backup 2nd pair dman he would not be a huge loss. look at the new post and I hope it clears up your issues.
