Year 2

Created by: Bigshame
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 15, 2020
Published: Oct. 15, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
After their playoff berth and seeing more progression from Suzuki Kk and Peohling they decide its not worth paying top dollar for Danault when they can’t give him 1C or 2C. And Tatar can’t be signed long term because the next year they’ll have to pay superstar Studzuki big money.
Caufield comes in and solidifies the RW and Toffoli switches to left.
Romanov makes the team this year and likely moves up to second pair

in your team explanation you have a lot of if's. The one thing I would like to point out is Kulak played on 2nd pairing and did not get the job done. He only had 7 apples all year and zero gino's. That is why they went out and got a nastier bigger Edmundson. Kulak finished last year #125th in hits for all d-men and Edmundson was #28th in hits. Kulak is a great guy but he is a 5,6,7 d-man in the league. Considering Weber, Petry, Chiarot, Edmundson, Romanov take the first five spots, that leaves Kulak, Mete, Juulsen, Fleury and Ouellet for the 6 & 7 spots.

Ya of course there’s a lot of ifs. It’s my personal projection. IF they go in the direction I’m anticipating. I’m super high on Kulak after watching him in the playoffs. He solidified his spot next to Petry big time. He will be more confident than ever going into next season. I’m sure it will be less of what he was in the playoffs but definitely more than what he was through the season. If not Edmundson and Romanov are there to step in

I once coached a d-man at Junior A level similar to Kulak. Nice guy, pleasant to be around, skated well but did not have much to show in terms of production. While I like Kulak, I simply do not see him in top 4. I see him more as a 5,6,7 at NHL level. Anyways, no big deal. We finally have something to get excited about with good players, prospects and draft picks.

Ya either way they have a lot of depth coming up. This Struble kid reminds of Chairot too. Maybe more skilled tho. Kid is a man already and plays a mean game

yes, with Norlinder as well. I am hearing real good things about him. Like I said, finally a team that should be in playoffs for the next four to six years.

Ya I know he’s looking very solid in Europe. Gonna be maybe 2 more years but we have time to wait. Another pice from that Pacioretty trade

Not sure if any team would pay a 3rd round pick for signing rights when they could just wait until free agency. I see the value in having the extra time but in a normal situation you would only have a week after the draft to sign any players before they go to free agency. I just don't see any player being worth a 3rd with that little time to get a guy to sign a contract.

I don’t know what the going rate is. Bergevin paid a 5th for Edmundson and I figured Danault and Tatar would be worth at least more than that. But if you’re a team that thinks they have a good shot and don’t want to over pay you can also offer 1 more year than any other team can max 8 years.

A 5th round pick would be max in compensation for Tatar’s signing rights I can’t see any team going longer then a 4 yr deal for Tatar no teams going after his signing rights because they want the 8th yr.
