relying on 41 year old Thornton in such an important role is sketchy

He could easily fill the role but too sketchy to rely on that. Worst case if they keep kerfoot, Thornton is great, plays 3C, and they can use kerfoot as a top 6 winger or something

Thornton is not a 3C. I think the leafs will rotate Thornton, Spezza, and Boyd in and out of the lineup to keep them fresh but also give them enough playing time to succeed
