Caufield is a good player but he wouldn’t last with Maurice and in the central so he’s not that valuable to a team like the jets. Again, o don’t want any part of that Gallagher contract. My point in saying Gallagher was paid as much as laine was that he’s drastically worse and costs the same. Where is the value in that? Jets decline and there is no argument there. The jets probably want a top pairing rd for him or someone like Dobson who will be. I would shop him to the isles before the Canadiens cause the Canadiens simply don’t have what the jets want in a laine trade, unless you want to include Suzuki.

I know that's why I'm giving you picks. No offense mate but OTT is not an ideal destination for UFAs just yet. Piling up picks is good capital for future trades or more chances of building through the draft.

Dadonov and Murray have both signed, with term. We have Chabot and FOUR additional D men taken in the 1st round. We also have a solid stockpile of young forwards and 4 picks in the first two rounds of 2021 to add to their 6 picks in the first two rounds of 2020. Somehow, I think we'll be okay... And this conversation was never about UFAs, it was about taking on contract we don't want in return for picks we don't really need.

Dude if you can afford to take a contract and bury it or buy it out if you want, in order get more picks is logical.

Maybe you haven't heard but Melnyk isn't real big on spending his money.
Also, there a plenty of teams looking to offload guys with less term left. Even if the cap hit is higher that would make more sense for Ottawa.
If you can't handle fans of the other teams saying "I don't think we'd accept that" maybe the armchair GM feature isn't for you...

You should've said something about an eternal cap from the beginning. Just because someone disagrees automatically about something doesn't mean I don't want to go in depth conversation about the subject. If you don't want to have an in depth conversation then you shouldn't keep replying.

I'm fine with in-depth hockey talk, but not circular conversations. As @sensibleguy stated, Ottawa does not need forwards. You seemed to disregard that. But honestly, Dadonov, Tkachuk, Stutzle, White, Tierney, C. Brown, Formenton, L. Brown, Norris, Batherson, Balcers, Paul, Abramov, Sokolov, Chlapik... that's 15 forwards I'd rather see in our line up this season. Perhaps you'll say that line up lack experience. Well, if Ottawa wants to slot in a more experienced forward, I'd MUCH RATHER sign Brassard. He'd be a better role model, cost us half the cap hit and he'd take a one year deal. And as other teams get to the ceiling, the remaining UFAs will go to whatever NHL team can take them. Dorion has said he's not done, I suspect he's just waiting to see who the best player left on the board is.

You have to understand the situation in Ottawa has changed. They are no longer looking for contracts for picks. I understand you think it’s a no-brainer to accept picks, but Ottawa needs to start watching their upper cap hit, since they are entering a window of competing. They can’t afford to use valuable cap space on players that aren’t in the plan to compete. Byron is a good player, but he just doesn’t fit in their plans. I can give a number of reasons why, but you’re so determined that you need to trade him to Ottawa that you aren’t even considering them. Look for a more suitable destination for Byron. If you’re giving picks, then Detroit is a good place since they’re acquiring draft picks.

As for the internal cap situation in Ottawa, that was last season. Moving forward, it’s the same as for every other team looking to compete. There’s only so much cap space, and wasting it on a player they don’t need, and blocking the younger guys who are ready to make the jump to the NHL that they will need, just doesn’t help the Senators long term. We’re just replying to your replies where you keep trying to fit a round peg into a square hole. You can stop this back and forth as much as anyone else.

If you want to trade Byron to Ottawa in your armchair GM teams, have at it. It doesn’t make sense, but yours is not the only uninformed trade option listed among these armchair GM teams. Have some fun, but try not to be so defensive when people tell you why something doesn’t work.
