45% retention on 5 years of a potential HOFer and only requiring 3 nice assets as a return I just don't get it and with so many much better deals available...

CBJ seems an awkward trading partner for Tavares as they either have elite assets or good ones mostly

Why bother retaining is a question I'd ask also

Tavares has spent 2 years here, one he nearly took home the Rocket Richard, the next year he was a point per game while playing through injury.

Why are we trading him for two young kids to play on our third line when we're in win now mode, AND retaining half of his contract??????????????

I have no interest in trading Ingram for a pending UFA. I like Hyman though and would just try to sign him in FA instead if he makes it there.

Ingram could be very good, so I think NSH will try to keep both him and Askarov for as long as they can to build their trade value and eventually trade one or the other. Ingram should be in the NHL in 2021-22. Though if NSH is worried that Ingram will be selected in the expansion draft, then maybe they trade him sooner.
