Byron isn’t going to be a healthy scratch. Nor do I think that Kovalchuk & Toffoli on the same line would work.

I agree with both points. IF we sign Kovy we may as well move Tatar and Kulak for assets. Maybe Tatar (as a rental) to Philly for Ratcliff and a 2nd and Kulak to Florida for Benning and a 4th. then line up

Drouin-Suzuki-Anderson
Taffoli-Kotkaniemi-Gallagher
Kovalchuk-Danault-Armia
Byron-Evans-Lehkonen
Weal
Belzile

Chiarot-Weber
Romanov-Petry
Mete-Edmondson
Juulsen

we would save like 4 Mil cap and still be competitive but the issue is we lose some scoring. Would either trade make sense for the other side IDK but it seems like it could be an option.

OR they can keep tatar instead of 37yr old Kovy who slowed down drastically his last few games with us and trade tatar at the deadline if we're not in a playoff spot.
you don't move a guy who put up 61pts last year for a guy who put 17pts.
just put tatar where you have kovy? we don't need to free up that much cap this year.

The more is a proactive move for next season as we won't be able to resign him anyway

so you trade him for something and get someone in his spot much better than Kovy....he put up 61pts last year he can fetch MTL a good return if we don't resign him. but they won't be trading him before the year starts anyways.

I would not trade Tatar for Kovy if that’s what going to happen. Tatar is our best scorer and he deserves to stay.

I would rather just keep what we have and take a run but I was outlining what should do IF we sign Kovy.
