Description
No, I dont think the Leafs should do this, it will hurt them long term

But if they want to go all in and win a cup this year, then this is the move to make

Spurgeon is easily a top 7 (argueably top 5) defenseman in the NHL

Personally, I dont think they should do this because of the gap in age, and the fact that the Spurgeon and Tavares contracts will suck in a few years, leaving the Leafs in cap hell. While Nylander will be on one of the best contracts in the NHL

Ignoring age and contract tho, do you think the value is fair?

Yes I scrathed Simmonds, hes not very good. He can play the occasional game to give Jumbo and Spezza some rest

They use it outside of the NHL more than anything. Within the NHL its a blip on the radar.

If you’re right though you should be able to get an NHL job soon. You can read stats, and it seems like that’s all that matters to you. My question is, why do you watch? If “stats>watching,” you could probably have a field day just reading over numbers. In fact, why even care about the NHL? Imagine the simulations you could run.

It’s subjective dude. Taht said, i think you will find that under .01% of hockey fans share your opinion that spurgeon is easily a top 7 nhl d man. I think he’s really good though.

I understand the stats dude. Then I watch the game and watch defensemen that the stats say is a corsi got just get the wheels beat off him up and down the ice.

Your stats are wrong. But thats besides the point.

Why do you like hockey? Because it’s good reading?

Corsi?

Whenever I mention analytics why do casuals immediately go to corsi?
Theres way more stats than just corsi

Corsi isnt even that advanced, its literally just shot attempts

Just watch hockey! It’s fun. i see no value in your opinion, all it is is regurgitated stats. I can get it anywhere, right? What value do you provide? What would be the best website to find all of your opinions, carefully written by other people? That way when I want to know what you think on a certain subject, I can just look it up!

I use the stats to re-enforce my opinions on the sport. The stats literally tell you what happens on the ice. The stats tell you who is good at what, and who isnt good. Just because your favourite player isnt a superstar according to the stats doesnt make them wrong, I dont get why you are getting so butthurt about them. Literally anything that stats tell you can be proven when watching the game if you pay close enough attention.

Spurgeon isnt a player thats going to get anyone's attention, which is why people dont think he is good. He plays amazing defense, creates chances offensively, gets the puck out of his zone, and gets it to the o-zone. He doesnt block shots because he never needs to. He doesnt allow the other player to get in position for a shot. He doesnt hit because he doesnt need to. Hes a very high IQ player that gets the puck away from the other player before a hit/block is even needed. He plays hockey the right way and gets the job done. I bet if he was 6'3, 220pounds, everyone would undoubtedly have them in their top 10 defenseman lists.

He is who people think Seth Jones is.

And for the websites, its not that simple. There are many different places, some not even websites. Sometimes you just need to text people with inside sources and ask them what they think. Or talk to a guy whos made his own models, reading from a website wont get you anywhere if you dont understand what you are reading.

First educate yourself, then talk

The bolded. It’s really wrong. I think the stats may tell you 1-5% of the story.

Anyway, I don’t want to talk to you. What I would like is the website that best organizes the thoughts you are incapable of having. It would be a lot easier for me that way.

If I educated myself in the way you say, what would be the point of talking with you? Our opinions would be identical. Individualism gone. Sport gone.

No. I’ll stay far away from you. If i have need for your opinion, I’ll track down the website that formed it for you. You’re real simple bud.

Cheers.
