Yay Corsi mentions

Yeah I reckon this would be a 56% corsi team or so?

Not quite the 08 red wings but not far from it

A lot of these guys range from 47-57% for, but relative on a bad team jacked up their corsi value. I.e., all these guys together would, as you said, make a hell of a possession team.

Only one guy in this team played PK, and Heiskanen is the only d man who actually was relied on 2 play defense... So this team probably isn't as good as it would seem. Top line is the only line I would rely on. 2nd line would be ok...rest would be questionable

Actually, Hughes plays PK all the time and Hague is more of a two way to defensive dman. All these players thrive playing a possession game, so at the very least, they will create plenty of chances. Vegas thrives on that style. At the end of the day, these are all youngsters on ELCs, so they definitely won’t look great on paper, but they each have a hard work ethic and compete level engrained into them.

Hughes plays what? I don't even think he knows what that is...or what the d zone is. In the playoffs he played 13 seconds, in the regular season he had 3 actual shifts SH. he also starts plays 65+% of the time in the offensive zone so he isn't really trusted defensively...so throw him out there. Makar is very similar, Dahlin starts slightly less in the ozone but still 55+. Heiskanen is about 50. Fox is about 54. So...idk this defense doesn't play defense very well. Your bottom 6 will get liiit up, and the 2nd line could be shut down the first is good but only offensively, with Elias Petterson starting 70 of the time in the offensive zone. Any decently built team would eat this team alive.

Decently built. That’s an important distinction. Remember, Vegas’ team on paper a few years ago was a bunch of 2nd and 3rd liners thrown together because they were analytically perfect and never stopped skating. Vegas’ team this year was one of the greatest possession teams in postseason history. Sure they didn’t win, but they ran into a hot goalie, and that makes the difference sometimes.

Point is, on paper, yes, this team should get destroyed. However, paper isn’t a very dependable metric once the game starts.

Dude ... I'm confused. On paper this team doesn't look good analytically it doesn't either, because it's so offensive. That vegas team could play D.

You know what analytics are right? Like corsi, fenwick, and PDO? I’m only asking cuz that’s how I judged every one of these players. I studied and analyzed every one of them.

Yes, and what I was pointing up was analytically this team didn't play much defense.

But that’s not necessarily what analytics tell you alone. Believe me, I totally get what your saying! Looking at zone starts, yea, this team definitely doesn’t play as much defense. However, what they do a lot of is pile on shots and shot attempts and soak up possession. Hard hitting teams can break that, but not as much as they’ll lose.

Yea, my issue is I don't think they will have the puck in the ozone or the Dzone without playing defense first because none of the centers in that team can win faceoffs other than lizotte, who is ur 4th liner

Hey, I appreciate the notes for sure! I get the faceoff concerns for sure, that’s a huge start to possession. However, there are players in the team who are good two way players that can still recover the puck in crunch situations. Not to mention, the one thing this team does best is move the puck. It’ll be tough to get it from them once they’re moving.

At the end of the day, I did try to do this using strictly ELC contracts. The team will probably get blitzed by teams, but it is still meant to merely highlight some of the better young players in the league with great analytics.
