Why are Leafs adding to get lesser player?

Lesser player? Laughton plays all three positions. Had similar offensive stats in less games, similar age, saves 1.2mil, much better two way player, and plays a type of game the leafs lack with grit and hitting. Better than Kerfoot, and would be perfect for leafs as they lack bottom six pk'ers, physicality and two way play.

Kerfoot might have the higher offensive upside, but what the leafs lacked last year was team defense, and bringing thornton and Simmonds in didn't help that.

Kerfoot is much better two-way player than Laughton, when you talk about information with actual evidence (not just "Laughton plays more PK, therefore he is better defensively" type of bs) (take a closer look here: https://public.tableau.com/profile/bill.comeau#!/vizhome/SKATR2019-2020/SKATR ). Played extremely well on PK when he started to play that position on Leafs towards the end of the season and he is feisty. Offensively, in last 3 years, Laughton scored at pretty fine pace of 0.37 points per game, which is equivalent of 30-point season, thats fine for bottom-6 forward.. Kerfoot scored at pace of 0.51 points per game, which is equivalent of 42-point season, thats a middle-6 production. And yes, he makes 1.2M more, but for 2 more seasons.

I would do Kerfoot for Laughton deal still, but Philly would need to add to Laughton..
