Caufield + 1st = Gaudreau, in my biased opinion

I think Mtl would propose it... as they are in win-now (2-3 years) mode. Tatar probably won't be staying. Gaudreau is an upgrade on Tatar anyways. And they don't want to bank on Caufield being ready for next year.

So a negative value 4th liner, a pending UFA, an admittedly good prospect (but that’s only the start), a 2nd, and another 4th liner for a guy that finished 4th in Hart voting last year? Caufield may get the conversation started but it gets shut down very quickly the second you bring up any of the other pieces. Calgary is an actual contender, they’re not trading Gaudreau to get one good asset and significantly worse in the short term.

I think Montreal would rather keep Caufield and add a 1st or one of Struble, Harris or Smith to the proposed package, Caufield is our best prospect right now.

If Flames are off to a Bad start, I bet they strongly consider! Tatar will have value at the deadline.

They will be due for a ''reset. Caufield and some draft capital are good assets that allows them to accelerate their reset.

I doubt they will go for a package that has 2 players on ending contracts in just half a year. They can lose them for nothing. Plus, Gaudreau is a great player. You have to believe in the guy to put up a 90 point plus season again, or else he will make u regret trading him.
