Johnson option 2

Created by: Revans292
Team: 2020-21 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 10, 2020
Published: Dec. 10, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Johnson at 3 mil is a plus value and he is still only 1 season removed from a solid campaign, plus now we have solid wings to pair with Gregor and if he’s not up to the task insert marleau in the 3C roll
team is better and deeper and there are less what iff’s and I’ve always been a huge component of rookies forcing their way into the lineup not given spots.

This option would be far more acceptable for me than the other one posted with Killorn and Johnson both without retention. I wouldn't advocate for this deal, but it's one I could live with without flipping over the table (I realize my love for the Sharks may be a taaaad excessive lol...).

Ideally it'd half retained without getting that 4th for future considerations, but I doubt TBL does that, so I don't see a deal to be made.

I’ll pay 3mil a year for a guy 1 year removed from 29 goals,
He’s been a solid 2nd line guy even last years wasn’t horrible, he could play a pavalski roll for us on coutures line or help support the 3 rd line and give us depth.

Sure TB should take on another 4 years of a bad contract. Why not. Just retain 1M or 500k though and take the 1st round pick as compensation. What’s it gonna hurt?? SJS have 4-5 worse contracts on their books that they will never be able to get rid of..

That's fair. His defensive play is worrisome even to me even in that role, but 3mil is close enough to my ideal for 2.5mil (based on needing to extend Hertl and make other moves to bolster the roster, esp if Burns isn't moved which I don't think he will be). I think the biggest drawbacks is that we can do much better than that with the extra cap space in addition to the stuff we'll be needing to do and the fact that cap space is worth so much right now so it seems a shame to have Johnson as the prize for having some of it.

I would totally do this. A 20 goal scorer (in a normal schedule) at 3 mil is totally fair. The last two years would not be great, but hopefully the cap increases by that time, and 3 mil is bearable. Buyout eventually wouldn't be bad.

My only issue looking at Tampa's side, they still need to move a contract to sign Cirelli, I think at least?

Johnson is t he hardest contract to move and this gives them enough to resign Cenek and maybe 1 other RFA, they will need to move Killorn or someone else to sign Cirelli

laugh Tampa's in no position to be eating $2 million on Tyler Johnson for the next 4 years or so, And besides he's being heavily linked to Detroit as we speak. The high California taxes would eat him alive and there's noway he's waiving for the Sharks to lose even more money.
