For DD. Habs add 3rd pick. Why should Canes(or any team) help Montreal with their cap situation.

From Vancouver's side you could surely have Edler, a left handed top pairing Dman for Weber to play with.. but that might put Montreal over the cap. Wouldn't have to include a first rounder, Juulsen and Carr would be fine. But if you wanted to dump desharnais' contract could make it a bigger trade, I would be happy for Vancouver to trade Edler and Hansen for Desharnais Carr Juulsen and a first. Could insert Gudbrnadson or Baertschi if montreal preferred those players. Certainly would help Montreal for a Win now mentality. Really no one on Vancouver should be untouchable, especially older players as they should look to enter full rebuild.

No, bad deal for Carolina. Why do they need DD? They have lots of centres, Again, an Eastern Conference team going to help Montreal with their cap. DD has become the most desirable player traded on this site. Really? No. Stupid? Yes.

No. This is an unimaginative comment palhal. The trade is open ended so obviously something needs to be added in order to make this trade plausible correct?

Carolina does not need DD. No team needs DD. Teams do however NEED draft picks. Adding a draft pick to a DD deal makes perfect sense for a Carolina team (If they weren't in such a financial hell right now apparently but lets just imagine they weren't). You don't even have to look very far for the last time they did it. What was the Bickell trade all about? Was he targeted as a player they needed? No. They sacrificed cap space and liquid cash in order to get Teravainen which was worth the cost.

It would be no different with DD although people can be as ignorant as they want DD >>>>>>>>> Bickell. Thus the price to move him shouldn't be a Sergachev on our part. Much rather a 2nd rounder which would be a steep but worthy price to rid ourselves of his cap hit for this season so we could potentially land a bigger fish to help us with the cup run. Not too mention that the season is almost a qtr gone. You're not even paying DD his full salary. this trade could happen at the deadline and there would be a small portion left of his salary left to be paid only.

And you're also looking at this from the point of view that Carolina is "helping" out the Habs. No they're not. Both teams are helping out each other. MTL is getting cap relief in exchange for draft picks (Which I Imagine will have to be the cost of trading him to Carolina for whatever return we could get if any) If that 2nd rounder becomes a Subban or a Kucherov and whatever MTL gets in return amounts to nothing, is that not a great trade for Carolina?

John Chayka is very smart and is totally ahead of the game right now. He's been "helping out" other teams by taking on bad contracts in order to amass picks and prospects. Something not a lot of other GM's have caught on to or are hesitant on doing.
