Not really a fan of the Predators or Senators deal.

The Pens would have to add an asset to get Hamilton... imo a 1st...

Senators trade is not good for Pens. We could get Hammond for a late round pick at best. No need to give up Wilson.

I would take a 4th for Fehr in a second.

Calgary wouldn't even think about a straight up Dougie for Fleury swap even if Fleury was at his best let alone during his worst statistical season since he was a rookie. Pens would have to add a significant piece.

Pens fans know best but.....why wouldn't the team want two NHL goalies....Fleury and Murray playing all season and the playoffs in order to make the Stanley Cup run? Fleury still has to waive his NMC before or after the TDL, and I'm sure Calgary would be a great destination for Fleury (an out of playoff team).

IMO the "trade" should happen after the season. Hamilton for Fleury sounds good to me. Hamilton isn't 5.75m good

Actually his modified NTC means he would have to make a list of teams (I think it's 12 but don't quote me on it) that he does not want to be traded to. He does not have to waive it for the Pens to trade him, they just have to pick one of the teams that is not on his "no trade list". In order to protect Murray without moving or buying out Fleury, Fleury would have to waive his NMC completely.

It's entirely possible he would agree to this due to the fact he will probably be losing more and more starts to Murray and probably isn't happy about it, but it's also entirely possible that Vegas won't want to tie up 5.75M in a 31 year old goalie as well, which means that the Pens (who spend to the cap every year) will have almost 10M committed into the goaltender position once Murray's new deal kicks in. Not ideal considering they will need to put some serious money into the blue line this offseason.

BombSquad: It's interesting that you suggest that Vegas would not want tie up 5.75m in a 31 year old goalie. But so many CapFriendlyGMs thinking it so reasonable that Dustin Brown and Rick Nash are l to be selected by the Vegans.
I think a Hamilton/ Fleury type of trade make sense. Just not sure if it needed before TDL. Nothing wrong with going with two NHL goalies this season. I know a lot people think that the Pens would have to add a major piece to acquire Hamilton. Gee, I don't see it. Isn't Hamilton overpriced at 5.75m? Thought the Flames might be happy to get rid of him long term.

Dougie is a 23 year old, 6 foot 6 dman who is both physical and can skate and has 2 40+ point seasons under his belt already. Regardless of his recent struggles, the only way the Flames would let go of a piece like that for anything less than top dollar would be if they were looking to totally shut down and rebuild, and if that was the case, why would they be looking for a veteran goalie?

As for your point on Brown and Nash, Nash has to be protected and Kings have much better options than Brown. If they protect 7F 3D, I'd take whoever is unprotected between McNabb and Martinez, and if they only protect 4 forwards, then I'd take a guy like Dwight King. Everyone likes to think Vegas will take their least cap-friendly vet (i.e. why every Pens fan always sends Fehr) but in reality Vegas will probably be much more interested in young, affordable guys like Rust, Wilson, or Pouliot. As an expansion team, Vegas should not to expect to even be a reasonable playoff contender for the next few years, so they will likely keep the 30+ vets to a minimum (it's good to have a few around to mentor the young guys but just a few).

Vegas does have to make it to the cap floor, so they will have to take a few pricier contracts. I can't see Vegas passing on Fleury if he's available. A proven, Stanley cup winning goaltender and the 5.75 Mill price tag isn't insanely high, and his term isn't our of control either. That's an easy pick for Vegas considering the rest that Pittsburgh would be putting up for available.
