I feel like both teams benefited from the trade and both teams would still benefit if it were reversed.

Pens still crush on the Sprong for M.Pettersson trade. And everyone thought it would turn out the other way. Sprong was the highly touted prospect with scoring potential.

I was happy with that trade. Petterson didn’t fit in very well with the Ducks and Sprong did. I was quite upset when sent Sprong to DC for Djoos.

Ok, Sprong is a bust so far!! Although I hate to say it, I think the Caps will unlock some of Sprongs potential this year. I think it was a good signing. Sprong, at 24 years old, should have enough experience now to be atleast a quality 3rd line wing.

Pettersson is 24 years old, a proven top 4 LHD on a play-off team. Signed long-term to a reasonable deal. Ill take it. Let the pairing of Pettersson/Marino play and improve together for the next 5-8 years!!

He wasn’t unprotected. He was exempt. They chose Montour over Theodore as the piece used to get VGK to take Stoner and his contract. Contrary to what Hades said they made that trade to rid of cap AND keep Vatanen.
